I found this cupboard in a man's garage on the junk jaunt. It want' for sale, but I asked him if he'd sell it. He gave me a price I couldn't refuse and even had 2 boys load it for me. Anyway THIS is the cleaned up version. Now what? Do a dry brush it white to give it a more fresh appearance? So I sand it and repaint it completely? I'm planning on using it for display and for sale in my booth. What do you think? Can you guess a price?

Daisy, I would give it a nice new refreshing coat of paint and then put in your booth... If who ever buys it, likes the shabby Chic look then they can sand it down in spots. but if they like the nice clean fresh look .. it is all set to go... I am going to guess you paid $25.00 only because you are a Junker..I am sure you can get more for it once you give it a nice coat of paint.

oh- I would totally poly it and leave it be. I like the worn look, the blue, yep- that's how I'd buy it... just like that sealed in poly... yep...

If you have time to paint it, I'd do black but if time is an issue, then just use it as is. I think it'd look fine that way. Price, I'm thinking less than $10, unless you were in Loup City then more(ha! I thought things were kind pricey there) I made an offer on a neat metal stool on the jaunt that wasn't for sale. ($20) and the lady took it. As I left she said how many kids had sat on it around her Grandmothers table. It had been in her family for a long time and she used it as a child. I was so surprised she sold it!

i would leave it the way it is........(it would look nice painted any color, but i prefer the character) and i'm guessing $5

Thanks everyone! I may leave it as is, then in spring paint it for a market. But I haven't decided yet! I paid 10bucks! there is also a drawer that goes in the bottom.
Jill I wish I could remember where it was! I know it was North of St. Paul and South of Burwell, but other than that...the day is a blur!

daisy looking at some of the Blogs on here.. I have seen some awesome work done on old items.. and I can see this painted a pretty cream color and the inside some pretty paper or a contrasting color .. it is a great find for $10.00 that was a steal.. watch out the cops aren't after you for that steal.. Don't worry I will swear you were with me..at all times..

i think you should drop it off at my place

I think you can leave the bookcase as is or paint it, and it would look just great. Do consider what you are going to be displaying in it when you make your final decision. I had a couple of chippy pale yellow bookcases in my booth and NOTHING that I displayed in them showed up very well. I sold one of them, and the other one I'm going to bring home and paint a barn red.

i would take the top 2 shelves out , if its not too hard.... and paint it white...then drybrush a darker white over it...then sand back a bit...
it looks like a wardrobe with a drawer on the bottom, but not if the shelves are original.......here it would sell fast , done ,at 140... maybe more...but in this economy i like to stay low when i can....

I love all of your ideas! It's awful wet and chilly here, so I have a few more days to ponder it!
the shelves just pop out so that would be simple to remove, I was also thinking of papering them!
My next question, if I do decide to repaint it, do I need to sand it down first or does the chippy texture underneath add to the overall effect?
