At out last foray to the salvage yard my friend and I bought six of these HEAVY manganese thingies. The man told us that they were from an old rock crusher. I should have taken a photo of them before all this happened, but I didn't. Anyway, they were all four tombstone shaped and each had a hole up near the top of them. I brought them home and my DGD and I cleaned them up and used Notepad and made signs on them like RIP and UR Next and Boo and put on them. Then in the holes (from the back) we put pictures of a bat, a black cat, a witch, etc. so that you could look in the hole and see the figures.

I took them all to the flea market yesterday. I was so proud of our creativity! Three other dealers were standing at the door when I brought them in (in a grocery cart - they weigh about 40 pounds a piece!) Their first words, "What ARE those?" "WHAT are you gonna DO with those!?" and the worst one of all, "Girl! You ought to sell those for scrap metal! You could make a lot more doing that with them!"

    Sigh........ LOL

  2. Oh Rosie - don't you sometimes feel so un-appreciated for your artistic mind? I on the other hand would have helped you pull your cart giggling all the way and giving you a high-five!!!

LOL Yes, I do feel unappreciated (AND misunderstood! LOL) It's like I have told you guys before - the vast majority of people that frequent the flea market where I have a booth are older, "sensible" people, who are looking for, I guess, household items, etc.

Wish I had a venue for more "out there", artsy type stuff. Awww...well.

  4. I'm so sorry Rosie--I hope they sell quickly to some very appreciative customer. I'd love to see them. Sounds VERY creative. At least you're appreciated here!

  8. CUTE ROSIE....BEeN THERE!!! our big industrial/junk department is getting a lot of misunderstanding..especially from old sensible farmer types......or maybe its with a little jealousy because their wives made them throw their piles away!!!!
roaming the scrap yard sounds like so much fun!.....

I can't believe the attitude of the other dealers, it seems you can't stand still and do the same old, I would think they'd be more open and imaginative. Hope you do well with them.
