  1. Our other thread was getting so long, I decided to start a new one.

I worked an auction Tuesday night (pretty sure I didn't make a profit!) Had a car load of goodies... here are some of my finds...

    games- $3.00 for whole stack
xmas ornaments- $3.00 the whole box
    bling- $4.00 for all
Lamp shade (on other post)- $2.00

plus 2 feather pillows for $1.00 a SET
bird cage on a stand- $3.00
tackle box with old lures- $3.00

(if I wouldn't have gotten the parking ticket I think I would have made a small profit!)

So lucky to be able to work auctions once in a while... I put all these boxes out at the end when most people were gone and hid the old ornaments on the bottom of the box... naughty I know!!!

  2. I always pick up those vintage ornies when I see them at tag sales. I love them. I can't wait to get out my vintage Christmas stuff this year!

I saw them at Brimfield last week for $3 each ornie or about $35 for the box. You got a great deal!

If you don't know what to do w/ them, send them my way! :)

i hear you jillruth....i would love to work at them, too. have actually thought of asking my favorite auctioneer to keep me in mind if ever they hire for runners, boxers, cashiers, etc.

it would be a great way to see the inventory firsthand, hear the going rates each day and keep up on whats hot at the moment!

I would love to work at the on line auction in my area.. they get to see all the good stuff before it goes on auction. and in some of the homes that are just awesome... big new homes.. that I kind of think maybe the people can not keep them with the way things are going in the world.. I mean we are talking 400.000.00 homes. large fancy.. and they have almost everyhthing they own on auction.. it is sorta sad.. when you see all the kids stuff, like toys, beds, items the family has collected over the years.. all going for who ever can pay the price. so maybe I would not be to good working there >>> I would feel to sorry for some.. I know others the owners have passed away or are going to retirment centers... I always wonder why they are selling all their stuff.

not to get off the main subject but you made me think of a recent an auction i went to last summer.

just down the road from us, a guy built a beautiful home on huge expansion of land that had a pond, out buildings, woods...you name it.

the entire lot went for way less than he built just the home for!!
i know he's a neighbor from the same town, never really knew him only of him and just hearing his disgust made me wanna cry for him!!!

they actually stopped the auction for about 1/2 hr or so and took lots of phone calls trying to increase the bid amount...tell you, if i had the money i would have bought it, it was awesome....the buyer got one heckuva deal!!!!

  13. that is really sad... don't you just wish you had an endless supply of money to be able to buy it and do what you want... kinda like me and my dream of a shop in the backyard... maybe I should plant a money tree there instead!

Hillbillies sometimes you just have to go for the gusto. Here I have a shop and this isn't my land. Time is going by and I just had to DO IT... I know alot of people think I was dumb for building something like that on someone elses land, but I'll never have my own now so heck I went for it...

Sometimes you do have to just go for it. A few weeks back I went and got an insulated larger 'shed' for myself. I traded someone the old shed for them running electricity for me and installing outlets and an air conditioner. I have NEVER done anything like this before. My husband refers to my new shed/shop/studio as 'Mom's Harley'. It is something that I have always wanted and figured I wasn't getting any younger. I am still moving things into it and trying to get organized. Will post pics soon.

I did have some from last yr, but some lady that cleans hsopital rooms wanted a few and I gave her the rest I had left. A garbage bag full. I have swan gourds that go close to 15 or more lbs...Martin house gourds, apple, and some mutated apple gourd that looks like one at the top but has a longated body...

Lev I planted my gourds later than normal and I have a few now.. but seems like I have a lot of blosoms now.. just trying to think how long they lasted the year I planted them and got so many...The one year I planted the snake ones and they got almost 6 feet tall, I think I was suppose to bend them some to make them look like a snake.. but that year my garden did so well I did not have time to mess with them.. I had tons that year and gave most away.. I made a few birdhouses.. That was the same year I planted pumpkins and they took over my garden..LOL I had cucumbers out of sight that year too.. but this year.. booooooo hooo Your gourds look great...

Been throwing away 5gal bucket at a time. Went to the farmers market yesterday to see if anyone there had the white and orange small pumpkins and the few that were there had bad ones on their stuff to. So it's not just me it's just a bad yr. The one lady said they came in to early. I won't sell anything that doesn't look good. I had to throw away 2 of the pumpkins I just bought.

Found these old brown medicine bottles for a dollar. Printed off free labels from net and put them in my booth with all of my other Halloween items.

I love the silhouette! Went to look up in my clippings an idea I saw from Country Home Sept 2008, Mouse silhouettes and mouse hole in the entry way of house with Halloween decorations and bottles like Blossom Lane has on another post, broom favor bags and glittered chandaleer at the bottom of the page it says marthastewart.com/shop (Martha Stewart crafts)

    Posted 11 months ago #
  39. Oh Greta - those bottles are gorgeous!!! As a joke I printed up a "red.neck" bottlin' co label and stuck it on some little jars full of various candies for a friend...now the red.neck girl has hit the offices at the University near here! LOLOL Keep on going with them - I bet they sell for you! TOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!!

As for the money tree mentioned above...
When my lil' brother was younger he had a moon pie tree...it was amazing how moon pies (complete with wrappers!) grew on that thing each night! Kim, try for the money tree in the backyard and see what happens?!!? ROFLMBO!!!

Gigi--Didn't sell the cat picture. Kind of surprised. I also framed another...plus the silhouette picture. Put them all three out last Friday and they are all still there. (*sigh*)

Robelyn--I should go back and buy more of those bottles. I love what you did with them...very clever. You are a hoot and I love your spunk.

I am such a Halloween/autumn enthusiast! Such a great time for decorating! Having a blast making, buying, arranging things for my booth! Great time of year. Hmmm...Now if I could just have make money with my hobby, I will love it even more!
