Has anyone made a shotgun shell wreath? I've seen pictures, but not close enough to see how they are put together. I've got a TON of shotgun shells I want to put to good use. It's dove season and the hunters are dropping them faster than I can pick them up!! :>)

  2. We used to make and sell them in our antiques shop a few years ago. DH has a crimper which I soon learned to use but the trick is don't crimp them too much or they will fall off the string of lights. I always found 10, 15 and 25 light strands and they really looked neat. Just give them a quick "crimp" and then put them on the lights. Easy as pie! Good luck and be sure to post a picture. Jan

  3. Jan, where are you crimping? Then do the lights get put in a wreath?

Jan, thanks for the advice! How about if I don't want to use lights? How do I attach the shotgun shells? I saw an image after doing a google search. It was taken at an apple festival, and it doesn't appear to have lights and is really thick with shells. I want to make one!

just a thought....maybe look on some hunting type sites.....i don't know, maybe like Cabella's, Bass Pro Shops, etc. and they may have one displayed?? never know!!

the big hunting, fishing place near us has its own craft mall attached now that displays a whole range of items, especially crafts geared towards hunting, etc. i found a shotgun shell that had a mini hunter in camo standing on it and i swear my husband posed for it....it looks exactly like him!! LOLOLOLOL ;O
during the year i hang it from his antlers display and around Christmas, it gets put on the tree for an ornament....i love it!!

  6. Jill -- DH has a reloader set up in a large storage room off the garage and we would crimp the shells in there....just crimp them down enough to place over the lights. We would place the crimped shells over strands of white Christmas lights and sell them in our shop when we had it. We even took orders for them! You can work the lights on a wreath and even put a duck decoy nestled in the center bottom of the wreath among cattail and other dried plants. Also could take deer horns and do the same with them. Really looked cute when finished. We saw the idea in a Cabela's or Bass Pro magazine a few years ago. If you wanted to place them on a wreath without lights you could glue them side by side and use Sure Grip adhesive to hold them together. Jan

okay cowpalace....my sleeping beauty husband is now awake and up....asked him how he'd make a wreath from shells (since he's an avid hunter)he said pop out primer and connect w/wire to form wreath....or else you could punch a hole in the long side of plastic and string along that way....for more random placement.

gee.....i knew i kept him around here for some reason!! lololol ;)
