How did your garden grow? It was a good year for garden produce. I have an excess of tomatoes. I have canned several dozen jars, given them away (there are takers if you will deliver) and we have enjoyed every possible way to serve them fresh. And still I have dozens on the vine. My husband pulled up my zuchinni, they were admittingly out of control.

Glad you garden did so well. Mine did for a while. My tomatos are just now starting to come in. Looks like I'll be eating "fried green tomatos" for a long time. The weather here (Michigan) hasnt' been the warmest to ripen these up. Zucchini produced quite a bit and then died out. Summer squash is just about done too. Only thing left are peppers. Not the harvest we had envisioned but we can still go to the local farmers market and pick up fresh produce. Oh well, maybe next year. LuAnn

  3. This was not a very good year for gardening here where I live. At first we had a lot of rain which made planting late, then it got very hot. My tomatoes didn't do much, but I don't eat many of them anyway, so that's okay. My garden looks good right now. I enjoy growing things so that's why I do it.

My garden did the worse it has ever done this year.. normally I can can over two hundres jars of salsa and not any this year.. my tomatoes started to die from the ground up.. leaves turned brown not hardly any tomatoes on the vines.. but now they are starting to produce some tomatoes.. not sure how many we will get but anything is better than nothing.. beans did not do will either.. peppers did great.., but then they always do.

  5. This post made me think about our apples -- we have an orchard of 10 trees -- I thank them daily for their produce. We are able to take at least a wheelbarrow of tree fall to the road's edge every day for neighbors to take. They share stories of feeding them to their chickens, making apple butter...and of course feeding the deer/bear. They bring us eggs or leave thank you notes in the wheelbarrow. We don't know all of their stories -- but know that our extras may help someone else.

Kari that's a nice thing...Our beans done good. We took 2 bushel to the nurseing home. But they said they could except them for the residents because of state guidelines. So they staff was excited to take them. But last week in the paper it showed the res. snapping beans that someone donated...Go figure...But at least they didn't go to waste...

Crummy year for gardening here in the Texas Hill Country. We are in a MAJOR drought...third year. And the heat!! We broke records for days being over 100 degrees. I had maybe TWO tomatoes. Picked a lot of peas and eggplant. Everything else was skimpy.

  8. had a bad year here too... Iowa usually gets nice and hot humid weather... not this year, my tomatoes didn't produce AT ALL... did some hanging up in a five gallon bucket and some on the ground and they just died! Was really looking forward to making sauce and salsa... guess I'll have to buy this year as no one else wanted to share because they little results either...

I didn't plant a vegetable garden this year, things were really hectic at planting time and I never got the time.
But boy did my flowers go nuts, they seemed to like the cooler weather we had this year.
I do seem to have an extraordinary crop of !#@$%^ fruit flies.

Well I am breaking down and buying tomatoes from farmers market...to start making my salsa... friend of mine is going to pick me up a bushel today and I will work on it this weekend inbetween sewing and cleaning.. LOL one thing about the salsa.. is I can do certin part of it all at once and then work on the other parts as time allows.. I will peel all at once.. put in plastic bags and them as time allows during the day do a batch at a time.. son has to work all weekend so no help on that end.. but I am happy he is working , cause he is working for my new deck and siding. Works his tail off.. he works a full time job and then works side jobs on weekends and at night to save money for all goodies... like the new deck, etc. I am blessed. plan on going to visit Lev in Oct. and have been working the auctions to find good stuff to take to her.. problem is.. I have an explorer.. can put seats down.. but I have to watch what all I try to put in there.. it sure isn't a 18 wheeler truck which sometimes I think it is.. LOL you would be suprised what all I have had in that explorer.. so far I am putting in chairs, urns, shelfs, and I just remembered Lev. I have some neat Chrismas stuff..that you can sell.. I will send you pics and you can tell me if you would like them.. I have no more use for them as with redoing the house and all they are taking up space.. I have two stuffed doll types raindeers dressed in
Christmas outfits.. long legs and all and a beautiful gold/metal standing raindeer.. oops here I go again.chat chat chat.....got to get back to work..
