Topic: Ranger Alcohol Inks

 (20 posts)
  1. I found free bathroom ceramic tiles at a garage sale. I dyed them with Tim Holz's Ranger Alcohol Inks. This product is GREAT! You can dye non porous surfaces. You don't have a lot of control but I like the surprise of what happens and if you don't like it--the cleaner takes it right off and you try again. Another bonus is that a little goes a long way. They sell them individually or in groups of complimentary colors. I bought most of mine from ebay but they are available many places.
    Now I haven't actually done anything with them.....

    The ones that have some gold on them were embossed with a rubber stamp and embossing powder.

    Leveata, this should work on glass-you can just experiment.

    hey jillruth....do you think the product would work on an old 60's kitchen countertop? or too much moisture/water around area to last?

    i have the UGLIEST countertop and have tried the quick grip/crap stuff that's supposed to allow you to paint over top and create a marble-ized type effect....well, it didn't do as claimed now i have a real mess to clean up!!! short of purchasing new/used counter....help!? ;}

    I just love the colors of the tiles - very pretty! Would make a beautiful tile top for a small plant stand/accent table!

  5. Gigi, I don't know. Water won't wash it off but that would be a place that would get a lot of wear. I guess you could try just a small area. That sounds like a challenge-there must be a solution out there somewhere.

  6. Gigi, check out the latest issue (Sept.) of Country Living Mag. Rustoleum has a product to resurface kitchen counters. Also a sweepstakes to win products, etc. to refresh your kitchen. I sure do like the paints used on the tiles, we have some that are fairly plain and that would be great. New ideas for a project or two this winter.

  7. I really enjoyed this issue of CL mag! If I ever get to redo my kitchen, I'm going to try that paint. My counter tops are white & I'm so tired of them.

    Jill-

    Whoa! I had no idea any product could do that. My mother has an entire box of tiles and a tile cutter to make a back splash behind her counter tops. Now she can finally custom-color them.

    I love the paints you chose...the colors blend beautifully together.

    Fjerda-- I will also tell my mom about the Rustoleum for her kitchen counter top. She is on a budget but loves to decorate!

  9. Just to clarify-they are inks not paints. They drop from the little bottle and when you drop a different color ink by your first drop you really don't know what will happen. It blends and it pushes the first drop of ink away. It is so FUN! Nothing turned out bad. Most kind of marble-like. If you buy the inks in a set the colors are beautiful together.

    Oh my gosh I have two boxes of these glass tiles I bought on Craigslist.. I was going to do a table top, but did not know it was so darn hard to cut the tiles to fit right.. so we are going to cover my counter that comes from kitchen with the stools by them they are on sheets with a backing and I bet I have 9 million of thses.. LOL seems like it anyway.. they are shades of blue, cream and dark blue.. we may do a back splash behind my stove also.. not sure.. but I never knew you could color them with ink..

  13. Darn! I had an entire box of beige tiles that I tossed because I had to clean out and didn't have any ideas of what to do w/ them. Even got them in a free pile! These inks would have been fab! Easy come, easy go.

    I have used the ranger inks for quite some time. You can get them from hobby lobby. Just so you know...you can clean off what you don't like with rubbing alcohol and it is much cheaper than the cleaner. If you drop small amounts of rubbing alcohol over your design, it will make a whole new look. also, if you use small pieces of felt to apply the ink it gives it a cool look. I like to use my airbrush to blow the colors around too. I am not use you could use it on the counter top unless you really clear coat it afterwards, but not sure if it would wipe some of your color off or change the look. I have only used spray clear coat. I also like use put it on glass items such as vases. I apply it on the inside so It lasts longer.just squirts small amounts inside and roll it around and keep adding colors.
