I saw the other day at a store that they were making hummingbird feeders out of old glass soda bottles and I have a whole collection of old bottles I would love to do this with. But I am trying to figure out what is used as the stopper and get some ideas on how to do this...any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Maybe a drilled cork with an eyedropper?

  4. I wonder if you can buy just replacement tips for hummingbird feeders that you can insert in a cork or rubber wine stopper.
I would check out a serious online bird feeder supply store.
    Peace,

On the garden junk site at gardenweb.com But the lady that posted it said that the pic's are a composite of different sites that she looked at. I thought maybe someone here could tell maybe what they used to make it. Click on thepic and you can get a bigger view...

i have some that are not that fancy or brass, but they could be jazzed up to suit... anyway just get the hampster water feeders at the pet store they are a rubber stopper with the feeding tube and they insert a pop or wine bottle with no problem....

  12. Found some odd pieces of junk in the garage and crafted a cute bird feeder for the birds. I simply glued the cup/saucer (doesn't match) together with quick grip adhesive and then glued the bud vase to it. DH had some pvc pipe and cut me a stake and we plopped the bud vase on it. The hanging bird feeder was purchased at a garden show a few weeks ago. Jan

Like that ideal...I made several hanging birdfeeders for my shop last yr. And several on the pole...Don't think they caught on very good here yet. We are alway the last to figure things out...lol This yr i'm finally seeing tipsy pots...

  14. We did a tipsy pot last year and it is really neat. It takes things a while to catch on around here too! Also you can't sell one rusty thing in your booth down here either. LOL ! They just don't get primitives! Jan

  16. Jan, I wonder if primitives will ever catch on in our little corner of the world? I hope so, because that's what I like best!

  17. I love to mix prissy items with primitives for a different look with things. Our little world in LA (lower Arkansas) takes quite a while to catch on if ever! It's somewhat like Margo said 'some folks just don't get it' ! I love refurbished items and can always find a way to use them too! Even DH is crafty with remakes! What seems to sell best in your area? Jan

  18. Well Jan, I haven't figured that out yet. LOL Last year I had a heart attack, quit smoking & gained weight. I decided to sell my dress clothes & they have been selling pretty good. Other than that it just varies. I have a lot of things that I have collected over the years, but I just don't think they would sell here.Maybe I should try Ebay. I don't know.

  19. I am downsizing my booth this week and going to see how that does for a while. It has been slow beyond making rent lately. I have splashed some primitive remakes in the booth but no one is 'taking the bait'. I think primitives are so neat but who knows! Right now my Etsy store is really doing well so that may be the route I take if things remain slow in the booth. I certainly hope this year is better to you! We will let you know about trip plans! It will be fun to meet up and junk. Jan

  22. My DD & I have 2 booths together. I've been getting a little over my rent, but she's having to pay every time. We need to let one booth go.
The bird feeders are really cute! Have you made any to sell?

  23. I just think mine adds something in the flower bed behind the patio and gives me more opportunity to watch birds feeding. We spend way too much on bird food but it is fun watching them! Also this gives me a good way to get rid of chippy china pieces. I want to make a couple of garden totems out of discard glassware next....it is just finding the time right now. Jan

  24. I've been looking at those glass totems too. I've seen some very pretty ones.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  25. Aren't they cool? I just love them but no one down this way would understand them....ugh! Oh well, may make a couple for myself anyway. Jan

  26. Jan - have you posted one on Etsy yet? I LOVE those! Since I can't grow ANYTHING other than weeds, they would be so fun to have in my yard!!!

I'm going to look at your store...

  27. I've been making the bird feeders out of teacups but I drill holes in them to let the bird feed come out onto the saucer. Not real economical but I like it.
What is a "tipsy pot"? Leveta and Magark mentioned?

  29. Hey RedneckChic - I will post a pic of one I made for our DMA luncheon at church tomorrow. These are so easy to make and I will be happy to make you one and mail to you. Just let me know. Jan

  30. Thanks for the picture Leveta! I just saw one of those in a yard at a garage sale and thought it was neat. Never would have guessed that was a tipsy pot. Did you drill little holes for the chain and the dangles in your bird feeders? Jill

    Posted 1 year ago #
  31. This the birdfeeder I made for our church luncheon door prize a couple of weeks ago. The sweet little lady that won it was thrilled and had been wanting one for her flower bed. DH made me tipsy pots last summer so maybe tomorrow when it quits raining I can post a pic of them. He is sooooo talented when it comes time to crafting things I want for the booth or on Etsy. Jan

Yes DH drilled 3 little holes in the saucer. I used small S hooks to attach the chain. It's pretty simple if even I can do it...LOL

  33. I have one of those type too but this was easier for the little ladies at church since some don't have a patio or tree to hang them off of in their yard. My whole backyard looks like a bird sanctuary with all the feeders and birds flying about! And sunflower seed is getting so expensive too. Oh well, I do love sitting in the den and watching them fly about and feed. Jan

Magark that is so cute...I didn't see it before... I'd Love to make some of those kind for my shop...

  35. It makes it easy for the little ladies to empty by simply taking the bud vase off and dumping the seeds or water out of the cup. This group at church is called DMA (don't mention age) and I think I am the youngest member at 55+....lol. I am the door greeter and help them with their food when they attend luncheons and help them back to their cars afterwards. Great group of elderly ladies and I do love everyone of them too! Just to see their faces and smiles is so good. I am thinking of putting some of these cup/saucer feeders in my Etsy store and see if they will sell. I can sell them for $ 5.00 and still do good....your thoughts? thanks! Jan

Well it all sounds great to me. Do you use the GE II to put them together? I bet the ladies all just love them...I think 5.00 is a super price. Do you furnish the dalrod to? How long do you cut it and what size? I think I got 10.00 on mine(pole type) and maybe 8.00 0n the other. Can't remember.LOL...I just love your projects...

  37. Jan - I love that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I need one of your creations in my yard!!!! I would be HAPPY to be your first bird feeder sell on Etsy!!! LOL

    Cute cute!!!

  38. Sorry but I have been out of town and just got back this afternoon. I use quick grip adhesive for adhering the saucer, cup and bud vase together. (Even DH is a believer in that stuff now!). He cut me about 2 1/2 to 3 ft. length of 1/2" PVC pipe to hold it up. Actually you can use whatever length you need and could even use rebard if you wanted to. To clean the cups out you simply take the bud vase off and dump the cup/saucer...very easy and that quick grip holds up great outside. The cup/saucer I made for church was a new one but the colors just popped ! Jan

  40. Of all places Walmart or actually any hardware store. It is in a green tube where they sell glue and such. I started using it earlier this year after reading about it and having a friend recommend it to me. I won't be without it at home anymore either!

Is quick grip Ad. the name of it?? I'm sorry to be a pain but I want to make sure I look for the right stuff...

  42. Leveta - You're not being a pain at all so don't worry. It is in a green and yellow tube and called Quick Grip all purpose permanent adhesive. Just follow the directions on the back of the package and it works like a charm. Dries clear and works on a multitude of surfaces. It is less than $ 3.00 a tube too! It doesn't take much either to work. Let me know if I can be of further help! thanks! Jan
