  1. I have lots of buttons and small game pieces that I am going to sell at Junk Bonanza...any ideas on what to put them in? I have the buttons sorted by color. I was thinking about using the small cellophane party bags that you get at party supply stores and tying them with sage green ribbon that I had made that has my name (The Farmer's Wife) printed on it. My other option would be canning jars with the galvanized lids.

    ANY feedback would be appreciated!

I like the jars if you can get the money out of the jar. Otherwise the bags with the ribbon would look nice in a basket or container and probably easier to see all the pieces. The bags would be cheaper and maybe easier to get rid of but... I like the jars. Diane

are they old game pieces and buttons?
if so, I'd tend to wanna jazz it up some to sell, maybe displayed in another item of value
but if they're common or plenty...I say go for the bags!!

around my part of the world...it seems people are leery to purchase items pre-bagged...i don't know if its the idea of not being able to physically touch the items or ?
if bagged goes well in yours...i say go for the name tag and ribbon idea.
    good luck at the sale!
wish i was close enough to attend!!!

Just my two cents...I buy a lot of buttons for jewelry making and I don't like buttons in jars...it's too hard to really see what all is in there. Bags can be flattened and buttons can be seen much easier (but that's just me!)

  8. Ice cube trays may be too small depending on the amount you have of each color, etc. (however it is you are sorting) What else may you have around that is divided but larger--I too like to feel things. I will pass up most things that are locked up or in a container that I cannot easily see what I may want to purchase. Think workshop. How about small suitcases that you divide into sections--then they are already packed for hauling, lay the suitcases flat and just stack for hauling then just set them out

  9. I'm thinking tins with lids. There are so many sizes.
In any case, good luck with your sale!

  10. Hi Janelle,
I too am going to the Bonanza and am trying to come up with ideas of how to display some of the small things like buttons, thread spools etc. How may booths did you get and where is it? (tent or building?)
We are still trying to figure out what we are going to haul everything in and what & how much we're going to take! (still working on furniture & collecting junk) We've never done a three day show before besides our own. Certainly not with 10,000 people going through! I ran into a lady in Missouri Valley the other day. She goes as a customer and said it's so much fun!

  11. One thought...I would bag or jar them, rather than let people pick through them.....and here is why. When I go to a large flea market(talking lots of booths AND lots of people) where people pick through bins of small items (jewelry, game pieces). I find it so frustrating to add this extra layer of time, meaning I have to wait to even get to the table/bin. I tend to keep going and then not buy. I could see "open picking" if people could approach a table/bin from all sides...otherwise -- bag/jar them.

yes, i definitely wouldn't leave them a touching free-for-all...it's time consuming plus there's always the sticky finger problems, too.

maybe you could put them by color in a larger jar and sell them by the scoop? whatever they get, they do...no picking through...send them packing in your bags with name-ribbon...plus using the jar idea?

there's so many people at these events, you can't watch it all or spend too much time with one or two and lose a ton of business, either.

i think eye and nose appeal get people's interest anytime!!

  13. Thank you for all the great ideas! Still not sure what I am going to do!!!

Hey Primstop: I have only ONE space and am a little nervous about that, becasue I don't think it will be big enough. BUT that is all I could afford this year! I am on my own - no partner, so that makes it a little harder! I am also trying to figure out HOW I will get there. I will probably have to rent a small trailer ina ddition to my SUV and my mother's SUV. My mom is comeing w/me on Wednesday adn then leaving Thurs night when my SIL and cousin come up in a minivan, bringing anything else that I will need!

It is overwhelming and nerve-racking, but I am very excited about. Would love to keep bouncing ideas off of you as another first timer -- keep in touch!!!
