We have been repairing, remaking and repainting all the trim and achitectural pieces along the roof top of our house which was built in 1869. One of the pieces, in the picture, I would like ideas on things that you would do with it. I have one idea almost finished but, it is interesting to see what all of you would do with it.

I see an angel with a tall hat. How much do you want to change it, cutting into or adding to it? It would be a cool as a finial in the garden. Diane

I have more where this one came from. This is constructed of 6 x 6 post like pieces and there are many old nails in it so I would not probably cut into it too much.
I will be bringing some of the unfinished pieces with me to Junk Bonanza. I will post some other pictures soon of other piecesPosted 3 years ago # -
What a gorgeous finial-type topper that would be for a tall post. It could stand alone in a garden... or in a row. It looks like your house was carpenter Gothic or ultra Victorian. Either way, your salvage is absolutely beautiful. I see pergolas, swing bases, and lots of other uses for your salvage.
It amazes me how people added such intricate touches to homes without the aid of many modern conveniences. Building a home was like creating art. Such pride in craftsmanship! It is rarely seen and can rarely be afforded now.

I would love to see another pic of the left side facing front to get a better view of that angle. From the above angle it almost looks like it could be a gnome or a santa....and I do love it the way it is.

That was the first thing that came to my mind also, a garden gnome.

i'm on board with the garden gnome but i, too envisioned the same as leveta....the old time princess with the tall pointed hat with fabric flowing from it.
might look cool upside down with crystals hanging from point and use top for a pillar candle....dress up the sides with color or old jewelry.
with chains holding a sign with your family name on it....attached to a post.Posted 3 years ago # -
I can see tulle(the wedding kind) coming off the top...

Okay, this is what I did with this piece. I added it to a box that I had, added color to define the hat and body, then I took old typewriter keys and did buttons down the front with the date of the piece. I will download some pictures of the house in another post

That is a precious garden fairy. Love how you have it displayed. Leveta, you are right. I too envision tulle flowing from the tip of her hat. Tea-stained tulle...to give it the right "age".
Can't wait to see picture of the one hundred and forty year old house with adornments such as you are posting! You live in a historic treasure!

What a cool piece--love what you did with it too. Those old pieces are so beautiful on their own--you almost hate to change them!

love it.....what a great shape....i would put it on top of somethng....like a big jewelry holder....maybe mounoteed on a post then with arms or hooks..
or the top of a tall rectangular shelf or shadow box......where the shelf could naturally flow up to the point..
what fun!!! ann

Here are a few more pieces that I have. Each is part of a pair and you can see where the larger ones are missing some pieces. The other picture is of the remade pieces back up on the house, well on a couple of sides. I will have to take a picture of them up on all the scaffle to get the work done

I love it in the box, still looks like a gnome to me :)
Love the trim on the house too. What a blessing to have that.
