it counts as recycling, doesn't it? i've been making these since i was a kid. every so often, when i'm in the grocery store, i pick up a couple of #6 plastic containers from the deli department and take them home. they shrink into hard charms when you bake them.
a necklace i made in memory of the daftest punk i ever knew who lost his life in the river last summer (r.i.p cheese ♥). since i'd be the one wearing it, i made some matching earings :)

i've heard about the danger of the fumes, but i keep it well ventilated and never leave the plastic in long enough to burn or smoke.

  2. Now THAT might just qualify as SteamPunk, eh? How unique! You just might be on to something there. Sorry to hear about your friend that lost his life. How tragic.

haha yes, i have others, but not any i'd seriously use to represent my taste... i just do these on my down-time without putting much thought into them. and the ones i do like end up being gifted..
i'll take a pic next time i bump into my best girlfriend, who has a necklace that i think turned out really nice.

ps- chiccottagejunk, this would just be plain old punk... steampunk involves more industrial-feeling components (cogs, knobs, tools, etc.)and is inspired by victorian times when everybody dressed like it was halloween on a NORMAL day! haha

gigi, the oven should be about 350ºf and as soon as the plastic flattens back out (it will curl and look wonky for a quick second) then you take it out of the oven and flatten it with something hard (bottom of a pot) while it's still warm. that's it. it's only in the oven for a total of maybe five minutes max.
