  1. Have you ever spent too much in supplies to make a project when you could have probably bought the item for cheaper?

Got this idea from the silicone light post.

I will admit, I have seen a project... wanted to try it myself and spent more money that I really should have to recreate it... but the principle of it all was because I wanted to see if I could do it.

Do any of you ladies/men have an example or can agree with me?

I have spent too much on projects more than once but I don't think too much about it. I guess I figure you can't buy the "I made that"
    bragging rights.

I totally relate. I often could buy something for less than I can make it but then there is the gratification of the process and the reward of it being "totally yours" and unique. Never think of it as over spending. Think of it more as cheap therapy!

  4. For me, one of the chief motivations behind junking is NOT spending alot of money on raw materials -- partly because I'm very cheap and partly because I think we're too much a consumption oriented culture and I think junkers can lead the charge to change that. If anything, there are times I should splurge a little more.
Instead, the value for me comes from the time, effort, and creativity I put into the projects. Often my supplies are $0 or next to it. HOWEVER, if it's true that time is money, then YES, I've often "spent" too much. I have a hard time baling on something once I've started.

P.S. Sorry if I got a little preachy. I'm just a believer in the "movement". Peace.

Yes indeed, but the end result is so rewarding when you make it yourself. A lot of times I find my "reproduction", while costing a little more than store bought, is usually better quality construction. Also there are many more things I've made myself at little or no cost, that make up for the ones I've overspent on.

  6. LOLOLOLOL yes, sometimes I have overspent - but I'm with lovecrafting on the bragging rights, and I'm with Linda on making it up somewhere else...I ALWAYS make a point to make it up on the next project!

And occasionally, I get to sell the thing I spent too much on for enough to get my money back!!!

  7. i never count what it takes to make the first one....thats kind of for exploring and experiment....then if it works out i make more...
several times, weve done way too much to furniture ....which ended up not worth much more....one thing leads to another sometimes...
we bought about 30$ of supplies to make wreaths once....before i realized how dangerous glue guns are ....not for me!!!!
