  1. this is so wierd to me....im here in corn country and deal with so many different people....
2 customers have told me about this....its a rope and an egg basket....and someone makes a chandelier out of it, the basket hangs at the end of the rope........they sell for 800$...a friend who owns a decor/gift company and goes to the big shows told me about it and said they are hugely popular and SELLING LIKE HOT CAKES........ then my buddy who does big fancy fleas told me the exACT same project but at 150$ AND THEY ARE SELLING LIKE HOTCAKES ..... ..
can you believe it!!! isnt it something that some of you could make for 40$....
its an old crusty egg basket and a big fat rope and some wiring..
..at $800 its cutting edge industrial for the richest in the know people.......to my rich farmer customers it would be a pathetic joke, and to many crafters it would be an easy $5o or 100$ project....i doubt if it would even sell here...my nice junky country girls would like it but would make their hubbys make it for 20$$$...
    .
if it turns up in archetectural digest, in a fabulous new york loft, i wont be suprised...lol...
i just bought several old eggbaskets covered with chicken #$$$% at the jackpot of junk auction i went to last saturday...

  2. Ann- too funny! I too, am in the middle of a cornfield and got a whole stack of egg baskets for #12.00 at least weeks auction... was going to try to sell them at my flea market this weekend, but think I will only get $5.00 to $10.00 for them... people would think I was absolutley freakin crazy to tie some rope to them and wire them for lamps and sell them for that much!!!

(wouldn't it be nice to live in that area!!!)

Speaking of outrageous prices. Went to an auction the other nite... this guy bought a galvanized washtub (really nothing special) on a stand that was missing 2 wheels... he paid $45.00 for it... do you know how many washtubs I have?!?!?

I bought an oak commmode for my mom that cost $257.00 refinished in 1988 for $55.00, while he paid that much for something that really is a dime a dozen...

    people amaze me!!!

This is what I found in a quick search. Nothing to fetch that kind of $$ but fun.

  7. HILLBILLIES...I WISH I COULD BUY FROM YOU!!! here i have to pay at least 10$ for egg baskets....
we are all at different levels on the totem pole of business...... our store has always always been the middleman..and happy there...i dont want to travel or be in a city....
.people make money or the opposite at all the levels...some of my richest junk buddies deal in the lowest levels, skillets, pullys piles of cheap antiques ...,,,the 2 i am thinking of are my cheapest customers and dontlook fancy in any way........but they will always buy from me if the price is right... and could buy me out if they wanted to or if i was cheap enough....they have huge inventories and can sell it right... they always have money..... .
i guess knowing those guys is why high priced dealers dont mean smarter or better to me....
and its still just an egg basket but with different customers...
jillruth, i cant find a picture yet, the rope was real thick and the cord inside it....its not a country look....rather a new category....farm industrial...lol...

  9. Gosh, I am jealous of both of you with the prices you get to pay. Down here you couldn't touch a wire egg basket for less than $ 15 and some as high as $ 35 & $ 40...I just chuckle and walk by saying under my breath....you wish! I still price my items to make my money and if someone else wants to buy it and try to get more for it....more power to them! They have my blessings! Don't you just love messing with folks minds on repurposed projects using junk! Jan

  10. Jan- I think that is the best part of doing it... that and the money people will actually pay for something you got for FREE!!!

Ann, I really hope you can find a picture to post. I just can't visualize what it would look like but it sounds interesting. I love "farm-industrial" although I didn't know what to call it.

  12. Just found one that may be similar on Etsy. Type in wire egg basket pendant light or lamp. This one is yellow and has a light socket run down through the bottom of the basket. cute idea! Jan
