  1. I know I love to decorate with my junk, my house is full of it.
To save time, I've made a page of "my junk" I'd love to share, and I'd love to see yours too. I've changed several of these items since I took these pics. It's amazing how often I change stuff around. That's what is so great about junk. When you don't have a lot of money in something, you don't feel the "NEED" to keep it.

This is one of my favorite finds from last summer, an old cream separator that was begging to be a plant stand.

  4. Well, I have "junk" all over my house. I wouldn't know where to start if I were to post pictures here. (Besides, all my pics have to be resized for this mb.) Anyway, here is one of my blog posts that show some of my junk decorating:

My parents used to have a cream separator, wish I would have kept it. I only started enjoying "antiques or rustiques" in my 20's. Sigh I wish I would have started sooner!

  10. Here is something my daughter and I did when she came back home after college 4 years ago. Painted pictue frames an cream color then just glued on silk flowers. I wanted to put beadboard for the background in the frame, but she said don't bother, so we painted over the print on the cardboard. A couple of months ago when she moved out she asked if she could take the middle one along, so now she has it in her kitchen.

  11. About 7 or 8 years ago my daughter and I painted the window on the my basement door. The view into the basement was not appealing and I didn't want just a curtain hanging there. So I bought the glass paint and fake, peel and stick, lead look-a-like stuff. I figured it would be a quick fix till I could think of something else but it didn't turn out too bad and I just can't bring myself to take it all off cuz it is something special to me now.

  13. What great junk everyone. I don't have a lot of room to store my junk indoors, but I do have a small collection of glass insulators in the house. Here are a couple with some birdhouses we made.

  17. Kari, I love your rakes too. I just started collecting old yard implements a couple of years ago. I tied three together with jute to form a tripod for my morning glory to climb. My sister and SIL loved them so much, I gathered a couple of extras I was saving and gave them to the gals to start their own collection for a tripod. I'll have to go back to the old guy I bought some from next time he has a barn sale and pick up a few more. Yours look so nice on the wall there!

  19. o.k. It's spring here in Iowa... (or close enough, we're suppose to get snow this weekend!) I couldn't help but start transforming my living room into spring decorating... here's a few pix of my 'spring display' I have on my crusy old yellow table. The mirror is probably my favorite! My sister and I own a decal business and I couldn't wait to try some decals on the mirror... it turned out great! (those things can be expensive so it's nice to have it right at my fingertips!)

  21. After my daughter moved away to college I junkified her room. A barn door for a headboard, old dresser redesigned and painted, rustic table with newsprint permanently stamped into the wood, 50's diner coat rack and vintage laundry basket side table. She has been back to stay and loves it!
    Peace,
    Ki

  23. That is great! I sometimes wish I could have an all white room. We have old gingerbread (i think) moulding in the house with a cherry finish... there is probably 6-8 inches of woodwork around each window. I don't dare paint it as it is original 1903, but sometimes it make the rooms so dark... I paint with a light color, but it's not the same.

Love, love, love the rake display beside your potting shed!!! I dream of being on a farm someday. I think I'll go out to look for some rakes today. I have a spot at my shop I think I can do something similar.

Omigosh! There's enough great ideas here to fill up ANY magazine! LOL

May have already posted a photo of this before, if I have I apologize! Got this wooden cutout of a flower out of a trash can on Magazine Street in New Orleans. Painted it and put the captions in the cutouts. I've been blessed with a wonderful husband so I filled it with positive thoughts! LOL

Used to hang over the commode in my bathroom! LOL In February it was usually adorned with MardiGras beads and New Orleans photos.

  30. here are two pics of my kitchen. My theme is a country kitchen, mostly red and roosters! I have a beam that goes across the kitchen that is where the welcome sign is. Most of the decor is garage sale/thrift store finds, however some is store bought. The other pic is above my cabinets. I have white lights in the pip garland and love the glow that it gives off!

My entire house is (with the exception of a few items) filled with repurposed, second hand, clearance aisle, or dumpster items. I would like to send photos of my bedroom. I transformed it from a taupe traditional to yellow Country French. I love to hang transferware plates on my walls. I have green plates in this room...Old Cottage Inns by Johnson Brothers. Found the entire set at an antique store for forty dollars. I framed wallpaper border, sew clearance fabric, and checked napkins for my curtains and dust ruffle, and added fringe. I covered taupe lamp shades in coordinating colors and then reupholstered my taupe slipper chair in different discount fabrics. I hope I can size the photos to send.

Thank you, Leveta! My husband, who has always been supportive of my decorating whims...(even flowers in his bedroom), DID comment that the checked napkins and striped dust ruffle gave the room a Circus flavor! I laughed. Most people comment on the amount of throw pillows on the bed and I had one friend count them! I love to make shams and cover pillows and they are all over the house and front porch. I love fabrics...especially toiles. Fabrics seem difficult to find these days.

i'm impressed at anyone that can have a bed that's actually made and stays that way!!
i love my dogs but hate their habits! one immediately fluffs up the comforter, sheets, pillows to hide under and nap while another is not happy unless he can remove every single pillow, blanket, hey....he even goes for curtains if low enough!! he's the linus of the bunch!! :)

This is a picture of a salvaged front porch gable and other salvage pieces I used to make an arch in my front yard. It has been a work in progress for two years. Just found the center plant holder this summer.

    Gigi,

My cats are the nemesis of my bed. I believe they think I designed the room for them. At times, they become indignant when I try to make it. They are constantly lounging during the day and have their own "spaces" for their nighttime naps. It is a good thing they are de-clawed.

it's not my idea of perfect, but most of my livingroom is decorated with junk. the big brown shelf and the dresser were dumpster finds, the white vases on the tv were thrift finds, the frames were dollar-store frames, the clock is a personalized thrift find, the flower pots, candle holders, and nick-knacks are thrift finds, the hanging lamp is made by me :) and the "sectional" is really two fold out chairs bought for $10 and reupholstered for $100, joined with a second-hand ikea sofa. definitely a work-in-progress, but still a fair reflection of my style ;)

I hope this picture posts. Found a light fixture base for seven dollars in an antique shop. The base is actually white milk glass. (Please forgive me milk glass collectors!) I spray painted the base gold, drilled holes around the bottom ring, added prisms. I had a bulb-tension fabric shade here at the house so painted the shade gold. The fixture hangs in my living room.

This picture resize feature makes the frame of the picture I made look bowed. Sorry! I took a triple frame, spray-painted it gold, used extra fabric from my couch (the picture is hung beside my couch), framed vintage, replica post cards I purchased at last fall's Country Living Fair in Ohio. And...wha la!

    Corona for daughter's bedroom:

Used metal frame of lampshade...bottom of shade for width.

    Used valance material from curtains.

Slipped material onto round metal frame and secured frame to each corner of her adjoining walls.

    Bought Dollar store frame.

Bought one dollar's worth of black material for background.

Cut diamond shape out of cardboard to match diamond shapes on fabric.

    Affixed letter over diamond.

I guess you can tell I like yellow, Leveta. With the exception of our bedroom and my daughter's bedroom, the rest of the house is painted taupe.

I looked around the house today, found some of my creations, and decided to take pictures of/share them.

Thanks to you and Linda for your kind compliments.

I am truly impressed! Your pictures are wonderful...as are your collections and decorating style. Corbels in doorway, use of paned windows, hanging doors, rocking horse, scale, tree stand using what appears to be carriage wheels and a galvanized bucket! How clever! So much creativity! A shelf on the wall with garden implements! And the sage wall meeting the white wall. What great colors! My hat is off to you! So much talent on this website!

  82. hey thanks.....i just like to be different !! i get inspired easily...i have always been a flea market junkie, a magazine junkie and have now become a blog junkie.....i have WAY more ideas than time to implement them !!!

  84. jill,
i have to tell you, i just realized you are one of my fave etsy people, i have your page bookmarked at check it out often !! you are who first turned me on to ttv photography !! where do you come up with the things you photograph?>?!! such an imagination ! i have also long ago saved the pic of typewriter tile coasters..as they would go great with my type key jewelry !! and i have a box of tiles just sitting there waiting for something to do with them !!! i tried the photo transfer to no avail....any tips would be welcome !!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  85. Thanks!! I will look for the website for the instructions for the photo transfer and get back to you here.

  86. Junxta (Jeanne-right?) is your user name superetsygirl on etsy? Just wondering because I had a convo. from her regarding ttv and I wanted to know if you all are one in the same?
    Regarding the photo transfer tiles:
    http://www.abovethemark.com/howtos/tilecoasters/index.htm

This is where I found instructions and I would say I pretty much followed them. It does take A LOT of cleaning to get all the paper residue off. Just when you think you have it all off, it dries and you realize there is more!

And-- the things I photograph are from my collections--

Let me know if you have any other questions. I don't really know a whole lot--just really learning this myself.

    Junxta,
I love your long shelf above the windows with lace curtains! How did you attach it to the wall? I have been wanting to do that in my upstairs sewing/project room - put a high shelf along one whole wall, or maybe around the whole room.

I also think it's extremely cool (after looking at your member profile) that you are an accountant and a junkster! Woohooo for curbside finds!!

    and..i hung them with L brackets..the long one...quite a few of them...from underneath...one L on the shelf, one on the wall...big ones !

August is here...looking for a seasonal theme. I so far have a blue enamel coffee pot with sunflowers. Need a little inspiration for this time of year when the green is browning, not quite fall yet...

  93. I decorated my sisters mantel with junk~ Sunflowers from the roadside were added, too.

pretty cool mixture of stuff prior. i love to see what all people will combine together in their junk displays....makes me think to myself....hmmmm...i have one of those in the attic/basement, etc...why didn't i think of using it before now?? :)

my daughter likes to pick me queen anne's lace and various roadside flowers on walks...we usually find something old, grubby and charming to put them in for display.....second best to her picking them is that they're free!!
