  1. I am having a summer sale July 16-17. I need some fun ideas for a name or title for my sale - I have only thought of "Summer Junkin" Anybody have any fun ideas?? Also, if you are bored, check out my blog - we had some flooding in Iowa on Friday night! We are very lucky - it is amazing what nature can do!!!

I'm so sorry that your garden got flooded! About that little blue table, I would cut a drawer front, put a knob on it, then glue & nail it to the front. You would of course need to paint it .

Can't think of any good names for the sale right off, is it going to be at your house or shop?
I was wondering tho (speaking of names) would you happen to know the name of the shop in Bethany? I don't get up that way too often but would love to check it out sometime. Diana

  6. It is Jim's Antiques - it is right off the interstate. If you go further south to Cameron (I think that is the name), there is another sho and I cannot remember the name of the that one - but there is MORE junk!!!!

YES, the show will be at my house in my little shed in my front yard!

  7. Do you do more than one sale a year? If so, perhaps you want a name that ties them altogether. So, when someone see it they know it is you ---- or maybe you do that already.
For instance, there is an annual thrift sale down the road from me that they call the "Working Women's Sale" -- because it always kicks off on Thursday night. When I see that name in the paper -- I know who & what it is.
So...let's say your main name is "The Farmer's Wife" (which I love)...then the sales might be:
The Farmer's Wife: Fresh Picked Summer Junk
The Farmer's Wife: Autumn Junk Harvest

  8. Love the "fresh picked summer junk"!! I always do a fall show and the last few years it has been "harvest of Junk", so this will work great!!

    THANKS SOOOOO MUCH!!!

  10. I like it!!! Very good Kari!!! Farmerswife - the sale sounds so fun!!!

  11. how about the farmers wifes annual yardsale........ that is if its a real blowout sale..... if its that, you dont want to sound too fancy.....we advertize ours as an catered affair with caviar and long tables of 50 cents things....its definitely fun junky and cheap.....real good draws....
we do ours with 3 rows of tables....50 cents....2$...and 4$...and feel like those low prices are a big draw as opposed to a small percent off sale...and ours is annual....and a real yardsale.....also advertized in the yardsale columns...

theres something really fun about an annual blowout...

  12. Kari - I really like both of them. I wish you were my neighbor so I could sit on your porch and run so much by you!

  13. wouldnt that be great....we all probably get tons of ideas everyday and need to swat down a lot of them....thats my problem anyway.....swamped and needing to filter out the bad and boring or hopeless...and focus on the good parts...
at least we can come here sometimes...

  14. Sue (chiccottagejunk)...well if that wasn't the kindest thing anyone has said to me all day.
Ann...indeed this is such a great place to come to and just feel among kindred spirits.

  15. Kari, you are welcome. I guess, in a way, we all are sitting on each other's porches running stuff by each other on this site.

I often refer to y'all as my junkin' friends on my favorite junkin' website! Those that post their names I even refer to you by name to my husband and my sister! Thanks for the junkin' tips and the virtual friendship too!

  16. I think you are all awesome, too. I just got on here a few weeks ago and feel right at home. I look forward to Junk Bonanza and just being on here and getting to know more junkers! THANKS for all of the great advice!

just checked out your blog spot Farmer's Wife. I think it is so ironic how we are all attracted to the same type of things. I also have the old wash tubs and they are our coolers at picnics. Beer on one side and soft drinks on the other. I also have two old school desks ( the ones with the desk top attached to the back of the seat) and am going to use them as end tables. I have 2 old enamel top tables I use for my plants ( If i miss the pot when watering I don't ruin a wooden table). Love the feeder. I would probably use it as a potato bin, recycling center or magazine holder.
I also just joined junkrevolution about a month ago. Don't you just feel like everyone is someone you would want as you neighbor!

  18. the ONLY bad thing about having us all as neighbors is that we would be fighting for the same junk! HA! :-)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  19. o.k... as you all know by now I don't get to chat with you ladies as much... but I have to do a happy dance to see that someone else from Iowa is on here!!! I get so jealous that some of you live in the same town, or are within a few miles of driving distance... I'm just glad there is someone else on here from my neck of the woods!!!

But then again... like eveyone has said... it could get hairy if we all were neighbors... I've shoved my sister-in-law out of my way to get a piece of junk... (but she's family and shouldn't count!)

  20. Great ideas for your sale name! I'm heading over to check out TFW blog.

i have 4 sisters (and 6 brothers) when we go to the local auctions, the auctioneers are always stopping us because the sisters will bid on the same things. i live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Anyone from around here?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  23. my husband and I went to a farm auction a few years ago and had NO intention of bidding on anything from a certain hayrack. We were just kind of standing around waiting for the furniture and some farm items. Suddenly the auctioneer showed a calendar from my great-grandfather's business!!! We started bidding right away and someone was going right against us, but we could not see who. My husband says "who the heck is bidding against us?" I said, wouldn't it be funny if it were my mom and dad?" All of the people in the crowd were watching and listening and the crowd kind of separated so we could see who and IT WAS MY DAD! Just as the crowd cleared, I heard my brother say "It's Janelle!" (my name) just as I said "It's my dad!" Everyone got a good laugh. UNFORTUNATELY, I think WE (me and my husband) ended up paying quite a bit for the calendar....my dad thought that was pretty funny!!

I guess we need to touch base with each other before go to auctions!

Hey, with all this talk about being neighbors I just got a thought. They should have retirement communities for junkers just like they do for avid golfers. Wouldn't that be fun!

  25. farmerswife that's a cute story...Great minds...

  26. A junkers retirement community would be great! I'd go there...if my husband goes to be with the Lord first. He would NOT retire with a bunch of junk. I mean, he tries to get rid of it almost daily and I have to hide it or ask him for patience with me! He' croak if he had to move to a junkers retirement community! LOL

  27. I'm in...but in the meantime - I think we need a true "Junk Camp" --and I'm referring to an actual physical camp, a place to go (named after Ki's wonderful blog). You know, once a year - off to camp we go for a week or a long weekend. We create, share, go on junking field trips, sing songs around the camp fire, have a secret sign or handshake, earn patches...you get the picture.
    Dream, dream, dream!

  28. Sue - I know the feeling. My DH does the same darn thing! I went to WM this morning and got 6 huge gray storage tubs and have been at it all day labeling and packing away. Now if it were a deer camp full of 'bubbas' that would be cool with him...agh! My junking is therapy for me and I love to create. Jan

  29. Gosh that would be nice...

  30. Some of our guys just don't understand it like we do!

Oh, Kari - JunkCamp would be the bomb! Oops, I guess that's an old term...I think that would be so cool and especially the secret sign or handshake. It'd be just our luck that our "secret sign" would end up being a gang sign for death or something silly like that. LOL.

Well, we got Ki into the Sisterhood of the Traveling Junk - do you think we could get her to run a week long camp for deranged junking women?!

    Sue

  31. You girls are too funny!! I love the camp idea and the retirement community. There is a 3-4 day long event in Omaha (I think) for shabby chic crafting called "Silver Bella" and I have been to weekend scrapbooking events, why not a junk camp, junk convention? I guess that is kind of what Bonanza is...but I have a feeling I will be very busy and might not get to do as much chit-chatting as we do on here!!

My other ultimate dream (or ultimate vacation) would be to get my husband to hook up the big trailer and just hit the road - with lots of cash in my pocket, of course!! Probably would not be as fun with my husband, sad to say! But, he's the only one that can pull that big trailer!!! :-)

Added more auction finds to my blog - ANY feedback would be appreciated! www.thefarmerswieiniowa.blogspot.com

  34. I would love to go to Junk Camp!!! Wouldn't it be great if we were all rich and could just fly to a central location, have our camp, then road trip with big caravans of trailers all the way home with our stuff!

I feel sad for all of you who don't have husbands that see the beauty in junk. My husband encouraged me to stay at the auction last night to find some cheap junk to reuse- sometimes I want to throw things away because I don't see the vision, and he won't let me!!!

Needless to say, our garage, shed, and basement are really full!

Junk Camp would be awesome, but I'm not sure a week would be sufficient LOL

Hillbilly my husband used to ask "What do you want with that?" when we'd go to yard sales. After I bought something and repurposed it (and got compliments on an item from others)DH actually started picking up items and asking "Can you make something out of this?" and sometimes he'll stop at a sale himself and bring home something chippy or rusted for me and it's better than a bouquet of flowers cuz he finally "gets it."

Heart is just awesome in concert. Saw them years ago in Savannah. Such a big voice! I'm glad I wasn't at the auction with you. Would have tried to bid on the same things. Great minds!
