Idea from a junk fair. I used license plates from the bicentenial (Michigan)--loved the red/white/blue color. The ones I've seen are painted all one color. I will just paint the wood areas--probably white. JH help put this together with scrap wood from around the house. Hope you like this.

  8. was at an auction last night... box of about 25-30 license plates came up... I'm cheap- only bid them to about $5.00... went for $14.00... (still cheap)... could have made a lot of these cuties!!!

  9. I can relate with the terrible economy right now. I probably would have done the very same thing and quit around $ 10.00. Even though it seems such a cute project when completed, folks around here are getting very tight with their money. The only place overflowing with customers spending right now are the thrift stores! I have been finding bargains galore in there lately. Those license plates would have averaged around 50 cents each but if you had to buy lumber it will run the cost up. Jan

  10. it is getting pretty ugly out there... the auction house was filled with people... but not a lot of buying... if they were, it was because things were being given away. Got a nice cute pair of child's ice skates for "first hand up gets them for $1.00"... but I must say, I too, was one of the lookers, not buyers...

Not looking forward to our flea market coming up...

  11. Think positive...things just might pick up a little. My booth sales are really pitiful...I am only making rent and not paying for the items sold. DH is more impressed with Etsy right now since the fees are low and I can make profit on the sales. There are a few of us in town that plan on trying a few craft/flea mkt shows to test that market. Who knows! It is so hot down this way that I don't even want to attend a sale right now....heat index is reaching 105 plus this week. Jan

  12. we were at 105 too... then a big storm came in last night and dropped us from 97 to 77 in a matter of moments... which is why I think a lot of people were in the air conditioned auction house!

  13. That is so strange as the very same thing happened down here late yesterday afternoon. Storm passed through and the temps dropped to 79 later. Reminded me of fall ! LOL ! Good luck with your upcoming flea market and let me know how it goes. Jan

  17. She is so cute!!! Jan and Hillbilly - I'm jealous! What does 70 degrees feel like? I can't remember!!! augh! Jan - my booth sales have slowed in the past couple of weeks - I was getting a complex because I thought I was alone! I think I'm going to have a "firecracker" sale next week - get rid of some older pieces so I can move in new junk for "back to school" - I am hoping that I can at least clear some stuff out!!!

Tell me your cool temperature stories please, let me live vicariously through your words...

It's just stinkin' hot in Texas.

  18. Today it was extremely hot again and no rains...yuck! Yesterday was just a fluke in the clouds with the rains and temps cooling off so quickly. I did hit 2 thrift stores today but headed home at 2:00...way too hot for me! I am going to donate some of my stale stuff in my booth to our upcoming garage sale at church the first weekend in Aug. I get to help set things up and y'all wouldn't believe all the cool stuff the little old ladies donate to it. I haven't even thought about back to school items yet but school starts back early Aug. here but with the economy right now they will just buy basic stuff to get by with. Really stinks doesn't it? 19. Today my husband called and said we had about 10 minutes of heavy downpour then all the windows fogged over because the humidity kicked up. I personally like the heat... it's much better than the -20 degrees it can get the winter! I've finally thawed out!

  20. Oh...to be so lucky as to have some rain Hillbilly!!! My trees are needing a drink in a BIG BIG BIG way!!! Jan - it does stink! I have a show in a couple of weeks and while I'm running around trying to get 50 million things done, I'm also a lil' skeert about going so far, setting up a 20' booth...and then having to bring everything back home! augh! I'm going to try to get my "back to school" all displayed the week-end after the 4th...here's to hoping anyway! I did get a call this afternoon that i sold a big table that was the "centerpiece" of my booth - so now I get to go hunt a new display something! oh - twist my arm...i have to go to some thrift stores....haha!

  21. Lucky you...sounds like a great sale. Things are still slow in our mall and lots of vendors are leaving and there are quite a few empty booths. Now that scares me! I am really doing good on Etsy and selling more for profit there than in the booth. Things should be better for you at the shows....good luck - I do hope it will be a sellout for you! There are a few of us going to try some small shows in the near future if for nothing else but to stir up more customers. Wish the heat would move on...I think that would help too! Keep me posted on the outcome of your show and I hope you find another great display at the thrift store. Jan
