    Hello,

I have two large antique crates I've repurposed into a bookshelf and a tv stand. One is stained.

My understanding is that I should seal/protect the wood. I don't want anything shiny though, and I can't seem to find a decent matte finish that doesn't leave a "foggy" residue. I thought satin was still fairly shiny after I tested it out, and I rather preserve the natural aged beauty of the wood if possible.

Any suggestions? Should I seal it? What do you recommend?

  2. penetrating resin - I don't even know if they still make it - maybe boiled linseed oil - wipe it on and then wipe it off.

  4. I know my friend Cammie swears by Minwax polyurethane in the non glossy finish. She uses it on all her wood products. It does sometimes darken the color, however.
