  1. Emma at Midwest Living Magazine called me today to get the scoop on some of my favorite Midwest antique towns or trails for an upcoming issue. I explained to her that Junk Revolution members are the best when it comes to antiquing and junking tips and I'd ask you about your fav spots and why you love them. Must be in the Midwest and be the kind of place you would love to go with your girlfriends or antiquing partner. The more shops in the area the better. They are planning on including Walnut Iowa, so if you want to tell us why you like Walnut...go for it. Of course they have a tight deadline so rattle on! Oh, and they may mention your name!

    Peace,
    Ki

  3. That would be the Annual Junk Bonanza for me, and of course the near by town of Buffalo MN. :)

  4. For a sweet little treasure chest right off the interstate - I would add Hixton, Wisconsin to the "stop on by" list. With the large Hixton Schoolhouse Antique Mall, Cobblestone Cottage & Miller's Antiques & Auction -- there is something for almost any taste.

It is most definitely a "Come as you are" place, filled with locals, a full pot of coffee and always a "welcome".

Yikes, feel like I am writing copy for an ad. :0)

  5. Darn Ki- I was all pumped to mention Walnut in my native state of Iowa... and you beat me to the punch! They have such variety and something for everyone with that small town friendly feel. Um- since we are talking about what's in Iowa, there is the Brass Armadillo, Majestic Lion (Ankeny, Iowa) Carousel Antiques (Story City) and Antique Ames (Ames) all within 30-40 miles of each other in central Iowa.

Berryville Arkansas. Lots of really neat antique shops there and a whole lot of super friendly people! (Actually that description fits anywhere in NW Arkansas)They have a cool antique sale every year in the middle of march that is set up kind of like a flea market. I didn't get to make it this year but am planning already for next year.

  7. Living west of Chicago, IL we live for the Sandwich Antiques Market.
http://www.antiquemarkets.com/ They are going with a new format this year and I can't wait to get there...sounds like the new format will be more like Kane County Flea Market but more organized. The Vendors of years past are outstanding and we never ever go home without a car full of goodies.

The first place I thought of was Warsaw and Lincoln Missouri area. The two towns are 10 miles apart and between them there is at least a dozen antique and other unique shops. Plus there's the water so it's a good weekend get away, the men can go fishing while the women shop.
It has been several years sence I have been to Paxico KS, it may have changed sence then but there was nothing there but a couple shops in a other wise goast town. Diana

  12. I see there has been no mention of any town in Illinois. The first two weekends of October is very very busy in Fulton county and Knox county. It is what we call the "Spoon River Scenic Drive". It is all the big and little towns that are near The spoon River. I wish I could remember one of the web addresses but you will be able to find it in a search engine. You would just love the scenery at that time of year. All the trees are changing colors. You drive thru a haze of red, gold, orange, brown and some green. In the past, there has been people come on this drive from all the surrounding states. Some people even plan there vacations on one of those weekends.
There is also the garage sales on "Route 34". I personally have not done this one. I am going to try to get to it this year, tho.
There is a small town in Marshall County called Lacon. A small town but full of antiques/flea shops. Lacon sits along the Illinois River. Sit and have lunch at the resteraunts and watch the boats go by.

I've heard of Irish Hills. It's near Jackson, Michigan. Not been there so can't comment on that area. I love to shop antiques in Holly, Michigan. Quaint little downtown area with multiple antique, cottage chic shops, and a small tea shop. The other city I shop is Romeo, Michigan. It's on my way to the Armada Flea Market. Hope that helps.

Gold Rush Days in Oronoco, MN comes to mind right away. There's absolutely something for everyone there. Also, the antiques mall in Red Wing (three floors) is a treasure trove of everything from primitives to fine antiques. Red Wing also has great scenery, bed and breakfasts and great dining. It's a great weekend getaway!

  16. That's it, i'm moving North and West.

Canton is great, but you guys have all the cool sounding pit stops! There is a little town off of IH35 running right through Central Texas called Salado - it's a must see! Antiques, Junk, Gifts, B&B's - the whole nine yards! And, if you get through there at Christmas time it is incredible!!! We also have some "hill country" towns that are fun - Fredericksburg is just one of them! It's a great stop for antique stores, junk stores - and some wineries on the way!

However, don't look for me in those places - I'm moving up north and then heading west. LOL

  17. We live just north of Weston, MO. It is a fabulous little town, so charming and quaint, and filled to the brim with boutiques and shoppes! In addition, they are also known for their wineries. You can find out all about it at:http://www.westonmo.com/shop/shop.html.
And the best part, on your way to or from Weston, there are all kinds of fantastic spots to look for goodies, such as St. Joseph, Missouri, where you will find The Rusty Chandelier ( http://www.rustychandelier.com ) and Jesse James Antique Mall, ( http://www.jessejamesantiquemall.com ) and no less than 10 other antique shops! Also along I-29, (from St. Joseph to Weston) are many other antique malls and markets! It is so much fun to live amongst so much junk!

Shipshewanna Indiana has a wonderful auction barn, and a hugh antique mall across the street. Not to mention all the cool shops in town. And a stones throw (12 miles) is Middlebury (my town). The Old Creamery Antique Mall on Main Street opened up last June and is another very reasonable place to shop and it goes on and on. From there head south to Goshen (15 miles away) and there are 2 more great antique Malls. Elkhart has a Mall on Lexington Street.

  20. Oh, yeah - great suggestion on Shipshe. I LOVE going there for the day. I live about 1 hour north in Michigan.

Ohio has lots of great antique towns. Sunbury has lots of shops that are augmented by sales in the center of the city on legal holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day (maybe July 4, too). Waynesville, Oh is a nice place with lots of shops and at least one Bed and Breakfast. Powell has a bunch of nice antique shops interspersed with shops with other cool stuff. There are so many other places. We love our antiques and junk!

Have you been to Gladewater, TX? It's the Antique Capital of East Texas nestled in the pineywoods. Yes, there are forests in Texas. LOL There are around 250+ antique dealers and junk collectors in the antique malls and stores in a 6 block radius of downtown Gladewater. Stop by Rebecca's Antiques & Collectibles and say Hi to Penny, the pug. (shameless plug :))

  24. I've been to Gladewater once, but didn't get to shop much. I've always wanted to go back there!

  25. I haven't been in years but enjoyed the time I was there. It is about an hour and a half from here and would be a great road trip. Thanks for reminding me of it. Jan

  30. So many places come to mind. Warren County, Iowa. Start at The Garden Barn north of Indianola. In town and on the square, stop by the new antique store on the east side. From there, find your way to highway 92(south of the square) and go west to the Indianola Flea Market. After that, meander your way thru the rolling countryside...continuing on Hwy. 92 west until you come to R45 Hwy. Go south there for approx. 15 miles. You'll end up in the sweet community of New Virginia...there, you'll want to stop by Vintage Home & Garden...my shop. Second Saturday Sales thru December. Closed Jan-March. I usually send visitors on to other locations nearby.
