I'm in MN where it seems to be winter for most of the year! LOL! Cold again today with snow flurries and windy and then back into the deep freeze next week! I'm already tired of winter and it just started!
    C'mon Spring-hurry,hurry,hurry!

I'm in Missouri near St Louis and we haven't had enough snow this year to fill a bucket ...Makes it even harder waiting on Spring.

Did I hear someone say snow. Well right now the area I live in (SE Michigan) is under a winter storm warning with the possibility of up to 12" of snow depending on your location. I've about had enough and can't wait for spring. I'll be planting seeds in February to get a jump start on my flowers. That aught to help the mood.

I'm in mid-Michigan and we are under a winter storm watch too. Luann you got the snow last night we were supposed to get I think, now we are hearing 4-6" for today. I love snow, but I'm getting itchy to work on some projects that I can't do indoors........

I am in Nebraska and we have a blanket of snow on the ground. As beautiful as it makes it look outside I just want to get in my shop and get started on some projects. However, the first thing I am going to have to do is organize (yuck) because I can hardly walk in there. Hope everyone is having a great New Year.

It stopped snowing last night and now the sun is out and the snow twinkles. How beautiful. I organized my space (out in the garage) last summer. Now with the car parked there--can't get to it and besides it extremely cold. I however am using the dining room table to do some small projects. I can't wait for spring to get my space back!!

  10. Spring? I don't remember?!? Here in Iowa last Thursday it was -34 degrees... and that was without windchill!!! I'm so longing for the birds to chirp again and to see green... anything green... We've had 34 inches of snow and it's just January... my work room is in my basement... of my 1905 air house- the pipes froze on Friday... so I can't really work down there without a parka!! Yeah- spring can't come soon enough!

  13. jcreviston- We have a fellow Iowan working down in Dunn, NC and he said it was pure comedy watching everyone, including the road crew, panic when the snow fell... his whole crew called in. Of course, he finds comedy in it when he's use to 30+ inches... he sent pictures and it looks like you did get quite a bit of snow for your area!

  14. My birthday is just a few days before Easter this year. Normally, at that time, the weather is getting warmer and I'm able to be outside doing my spring cleaning. But I have had a few birthdays that it has snowed a foot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't snow like that this year. I am so ready for warmer weather!!

  15. Well, it's spring according to the calendar, but it's snowing here in Michigan. It's sticking around the trees, but melting on the grass. Gotta luv Michigan! Sue

  16. This is our azaleas last Thursday before the cold front moved through. We have them all over the backyard and they are so pretty. Wish y'all could see them. This morning though it was in the 30's again and warmed up this afternoon. Such crazy weather! Jan

  18. They are much prettier today...all in full bloom now. Even our dogwoods are pretty this year. I have purple/gold pansies and tulip across the front flower bed. We both love to work in the yard. Thanks! Jan

  21. Poor thing...it looks like the ones I actually try to grow myself. I love them but they don't like me for some reason. We had temps in the mid 30's this morning but it warmed up nicely this afternoon. Got a chance to turn off the greenhouse heat too. We had been fighting yellow pine pollen until the rains Friday night and our street always floods due to the creek across the street. I love spring and ready for it to settle in. Maybe the snow will go away for y'all too. I went back to the estate sale this afternoon to pick up our enamel top table we purchased yesterday and everything was 1/2 off. Got a wonderful 1946 Monopoly game with almost all the pieces for $ 1.00. I hated to leave all those wonderful windows but they were marked down to $ 5.00 and I thought that was still too high. Most were 9 panes complete with the glass and some taller skinny ones too. Hubby would have thrown a big fit if I had gotten any of them. We are trying to dig out around here and it is like Christmas again with all the finds! Jan

  22. It is a beautiful day here and the azaleas are bursting in full bloom. Here is a picture of a bed running down the middle of our backyard. Our dog baby manages to keep the grass worn in this area so it will get resodded later this spring.

  25. Just thought I would show you my "planters" on my porch. The weather has still been a bit "iffy" so I haven't planted a lot yet. The pink and red flowers were on clearance for $1 a pot, so I couldn't pass them up.

Love your plantar's--especially the chicken feeders. We had snow yesterday but today the snow's gone, the sun is out, it looks great (still chilly) can't have everything.

  28. Vanessa: Cute and clever idea on the chicken feeders. I still have the chicken feeder (Bringing in the Sheaves from your booth) in my laundry room in the basement holding laundry stain remover tips. You come up with the cutest ideas! Jan

vanessakae...how do you have your feeders set up to drain? does the lower plant get too much water...or do you have it separated somehow?
each yr. i try to use unusual things for plantars and end up with "close to dying" or "dead" plant victims! :)

grams got alot of those feeders..waiting to be filled!! :)

  31. Will be happy to - Vanessa made it and had it in her booth. She is so talented and makes some of the cutest things! I use it to hold laundry tip sheets and such and even spare change or whatever else makes it through the washer! It may be tomorrow morning before I can get it posted. Thanks! Jan

  39. Yes. I was just about to email you to take a look at it. I just adore it and keep it on the wall in the basement with information on removing stains and such from laundry. May move it upstairs to the kitchen wall soon though. It has sooooooo much charm! Jan

  40. Jan, that is so darling - now I want a chicken feeder...

    Posted 4 years ago #
  41. I just love it too! The neat thing about it is I can change it with the seasons. Vanessa does some of the cutest things in her booth and doesn't mass produce them...they are more one of a kind. Wish I had her talent! Jan

  42. This is my pretty amayrilis bulb that resided in the basement all winter. I repotted it last spring and thought it had croaked but surprise it lived! It is so pretty and is now in my den. Jan

  49. It's rainy here in western Maryland but supposed to be a sunny weekend - finally - I'm getting cranky and moldy! We're searching for a puppy to adopt and I'm off of school for spring break (school nurse - high school of 2000 wild and crazy teens), so I have applications in and maybe we'll go on some pup viewings. I also plan to plant lettuce, onions, herbs and a few perrenials. The chicken feed photos are just fab - I have a few settings in my yard with a wood chicken crate, a metal waterer, etc. now I plan to search for one of these. We have two places near us in PA that I have found many a treasure called Shupps Grove and another called Rennigers - they have websites - take and peek and thanks for all the cool ideas!!!! 51. I plan on attending a garden show fund raister out in the country tomorrow morning and hope some of the vendors have some neat ideas. I will take my camera and snap a few shots. Last year they had really neat stuff according to those who attended. I must have slept in that day...ha! Jenn - love your tilting pots(and the teapot adds extra quirkiness to it...mine are empty right now and look pitiful. Jan

  53. o.k. they are talking 6 inches of snow this weekend here in Iowa... I can't take it anymore so I've decided to decorate my front porch for spring... it was kinda a whim actually... started by proping the ladder on the porch trying to clean the yard... then after trips to the garage, garden shed, basement, and 1st floor, this is what I've come up with... (like my shadow?!?)

no chance of real flowers here in the next couple days... so I'm going to now go out and sit in my porch swing and try to imagine spring is here before the snow falls... *sigh*

OK I can't believe this but yet it's Michigan so I guess this shouldn't be abnormal. Listened to the weather and as of later this evening we are under a "winter storm watch". We could get up to 6 inches of snow!! Doesn't Mother Nature know it's suppose to be spring NOT winter.

  57. Don't feel bad...it was 81 here yesterday and going to be in the 30's Monday morning and then in the 20's on Tues. morning. We have all sorts of plants blooming and they are going to freeze. Crazy weather! Bundle up! Jan

    Posted 4 years ago #
  58. The struggle between winter and spring is trying - I've got a stack of sheets, towels, old shirts and some plastic sheeting at the ready to cover as much of my budding/blooming/growing things as possible tonight. Sounds like I may need them the next 2-3 nights. Yuk!

But - the hillbillies I LOVE your spring porch display - it's beautiful and gives hope that spring WILL win over winter soon!

    Posted 4 years ago #
  59. I have to water and fertilize the greenhouse this afternoon so I can turn on the heat lamp for the next 3 nights. I hope all the blooming stuff can hang in there and make it with the freeze. Jan

  60. Hillbillies -- I just love your porch! Are you close enough to consider doing a market in the Rochester MN area? If you (or anyone else here) are interested, my email and blog address are in my profile. There is info in the right sidebar of my blog about our Vintage Treasures Market.

Hope you didn't get a bunch of snow this weekend. We luckily escaped most of it.

  61. Marge- I am about 2 hours away... right now am hording stuff as I'm in charge of a small flea market in my town for the celebration this July... I'm not expecting many vendors... we're a town of 500 people... so I'm trying to at least have two or three booth spaces full of projects... will check your blog and see if we can make it up, to vend or visit!!!

Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement for my porch creation... I wish I could make it into a full time job! I relish in the fact that I have so much junk that I shop around my house and can come up with things like this!!

As the snow fell Sunday morning (3-4 inches) I sat on my porch swing and admired my touch of spring while freezing having a cup of coffee... they are talking 50's by Thursday so hopefully this will all be done until next year~

    Posted 4 years ago #
  62. Hillbillies - Love your porch theme! Makes me want to get my wooden ladder out of the storage building and create with it. May do something in the backyard with it. Right now I have a very old wood chicken crate in one corner with stuff inside and on top of it. I had it in my barn during my rodeo days 30+ years ago. It was just too priceless to leave behind so I have lugged it with me through the years. It is cold and blustery here today with a strong nw wind. Going to dip to 29 tonight and then hit 75 for Wed. Spring???? Jan

  65. Heidi- I have felt the same way! After getting 3-4 inches on Sunday, it's starting to melt... if you can hear the birds, they are confused, but they haven't left yet... it's gotta be a good sign! Hold on... we probably won't have spring, it will just turn into summer... but if there is no snow... I'm good with that!

  66. We had temps of 36 this morning but it should warm up to the 70's by afternoon. Surprisingly the low yesterday (33) didn't affect any of my blooming azaleas. Birds are happy today too! I am busy sanding table legs on my enamel top table we got at the last estate tag sale. Jan

    Posted 4 years ago #
  67. What is a tag sale? I'm sorry to ask such dumb questions. I alwasy thought TS stood for thrift store. But I know now its tag sale...

    Posted 4 years ago #
  68. Tag sales around here are estate sales conducted by someone and everything is "tagged" with a price. One lady that conducts quite a few of them refers to her brochures as estate tag sales. Sometimes things are pricey and other times you can get a bargain. Jan

    Posted 4 years ago #
  69. Oh while, I don't know if they have those here or not. I've only been to a few. So then you pick the item and just pay the price that's on it?

    Posted 4 years ago #
  70. Yep...that is pretty much how it works. Usually the last day what is left is marked 1/2 price too. I normally let folks have the house stuff and head outside to the good storage shed junk. I love the vintage items you can use in flower beds and gardens. Besides I am getting too old for all the push and shove of folks trying to get in the house first. Before I pay out I find time to cruise through the house just to see if I can find some unique object overlooked by others....by that time they are knee deep in the payout line! Jan

    Posted 4 years ago #
  71. My DH works with a guy that has a realastate buiness here in the county. He also does auctions. I'm going to have him ask if they do tag sales....Thanks for the help...
