  1. My inlaws gave me a bunch of lathe that came out of the walls in their old house. Does anyone have any great projects I could make?

  2. The wooden flags you see in mags. If they are long enough I think they would we great.

Yes, flags come to mind right away. If you sell your projects, I think flags will be a good seller, this year.

I've also seen stars made out of them with grapevine wound around. The pieces of lathe had a small hole drilled in each end and rusty wire used to connect one piece to the next.

I've also seen smaller trellis's made out of lathe, then add a birdhouse and some grapvine. They can be hung or a stake added to them to put in the ground.

I've seen the lathe made into picture frames and several smaller pictures of the house they came from in the frame. What a wonderful way to preserve a member of the homestead .

I have seen big stars made with lathe. They are wonderful, you can either leave them natural colored or I have seen some of them painted. Good luck with whatever you do with them and please post so we can see the final project.

I've seen those big stars too and they are great. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Be sure to post pics.

  8. I have to agree, too. The big star would be a great use for lathe. I made a star at Christmas using yardsticks. I'm guessing it's about the same thing. It was super easy to do and only took a few minutes and was really easy to hang on the wall. It made a big statement, even at only 36". Lathing strips would be even cooler.

  9. Oh, BTW, I also like the ideas of the flag, trellis, and picture frames. If you have enough lathe, you could probably do them all!

Hey Junkermidge--that's a great idea. VanessaKae could just do them all!

  11. Oh, Christy. I hope you're not mocking me! But if you are, I've probably got it coming. And it certainly wouldn't be the first time. It's just that I think working on projects is more important than things like sleeping, eating, working, having friends, having a life. Doesn't everyone? I guess I'm just a junk dreamer!

Are we sisters? LOL I can't wait to get up in the morning and tackle some project. Just not enough hours to get as much accomplished as I want. I'd rather be working on a project than just about anything else.

Just like you and Christy, I'd probably want to make them all.

  14. Well, I probably won't try to tackle ALL the projects. LOL! I think I will start with the stars. Maybe this afternoon. I'll let you know how they turn out. Thanks for the ideas!

My first thought was stars but that's been covered :^). How about making the shape of a four pane window and decorating it with pip berries and a big rusty star. You could also make a ladder shape how ever tall you want, hang on the wall or lean against the wall. It could be decorated with pip berry garland or hang something light on it like the old decorated tea towels or a collection of flour sack material. Diana

Heck no, Junkermidge--I'm not mocking you! I really think she should make use of all that material and make as much as possible. Of course, we all expect her to share pics when she's through.

thedust is really bad so that gives me a good reason to lock myself in my room and watch movies or go to the basement and craft. i am not supposed to be around alot of chemicals or around alot of dust cause i am on a liver transplant list so that gives me a good reason to stay away also he keeps it pretty contained

  21. it would add great texture to small things too...like birdhouse roofs.....or sides of totes.....ann
