  1. Hello, fellow JUNK ADDICT here, just checking to see if anyone else "HIDES" there junk? My husband has seen our basement storage rooms taken over by my junk and tries to be patient with me. But, I still buy lots of junk and hide it in every nook and cranny that is not already filled. I usually tell myself, well I got five boxes of junk (or whatever quantity) for only $3 - what a steal! But, in my house, it's not that I spend a lot of $$ (because I don't) it's the fact that I don't have room to store it all until it becomes something beautiful!

Does anyone else out there "HIDE' their junk until they can pull it out when no one is home and create something with it?

  2. Nope...don't have to find my junk....DH is as bad as I am...LOL. But I too don't have nearly enough room. I have slowly gotten rid of "normal" stuff to make more room for junk.

honestly...i tend to hide some cuz he "just doesn't get it...until the vision is a reality" and sometimes not even then! :)
i don't pay alot of money for junk or spend alot on other things either...my favorite four letter words are SALE-FREE-TAKE or the bigger word....CLEARANCE!! but for some reason i feel bad for purchasing things to resale, change or especially keep for my own use...guess i'm afraid i'll lose more than i make in the longrun and waste money we need??
    suppose i'm a "conscienceous junk-a-holic" :) lol

  5. Kari, how cool to have a barn to hide/stash your stuff in!

  6. What I would give for a barn...DH too. :)

  7. I've got a barn but I only have a tiny little corner of it. Hubby and son have the rest. But that's okay, cuz if they won't share the barn, they just have to look at all my stuff in the house. The diningroom table, livingroom closet, basement and attic. The diningroom table is my work space most of the time. We never use it anyway. (lol)
I don't tend to hide my stuff. The way I look at it, what I pay for my stuff is 1/10th of the cost of their stuff. :o)

  8. I too have a husband who is a junk addict like myself... I go through these moments of frustration because my house is full, the porch, basement, garage and garden shed... I wish sometimes my house and belongings were organized... but being junkers, I don't think that can happen... because we both hate to throw anything out that could be useful for a project... being a junker is a love/hate relationship for myself!

  9. i hear you ...cant stand it when i need something that i got rid of....
my space is down in the basement...im just to messy to have it upstairs...i like the rooms there like they are and dont want to have to put everythng away all the time...m workspace looks like a tornado went thru....
at the store its easier, its all for sale and in fairly organized piles...then when we have a project we just go get what we need and give it to the carpenters or whatever.......everything is prety much out all the time......

LOL Don't know how I had overlooked this post. I told my junking friend yesterday that I had to hide the broken changing table that I got off the curb yesterday. We laughed that other women hide designer clothes from their husbands - we hide wooden spindles! LOL

(I also hide picture frames. Shhh...don't tell.)

The only thing my husband tends to ask about is big pieces like furniture that I cull to redo. Sometimes I get the "When-are-we-going-to-do-something-with-this?" rambling, but he always knows I will do something eventually because I do it to make money...to go out and spend on more stuff, of course!! The other small stuff gets stuck here and there without a moments notice. I'm sorta lucky in that my husband is a bit of a pack rat himself, though not with "our kind of stuff"!!

i've been married for 10 years and my husband, bless his heart STILL CANNOT get the "look" i give when i want something kept between us or not said in front of kids or the "usual connection couples get over the years of being around one another and you just know"......he's a slow learner, i guess...lol ;O but anyhow, hiding junk....nope don't have to...it can be right in front of him like my looks/hints and he just DOESN'T see it!!!

(remember that cartoon where the character says "which way did he go, which way did he go?" yep, that is my husband!!!

  13. I gave up trying to hide my junk, becasue like many of the posts above, he has a lot of junk, too. He restores antique tractors and sells parts to other people that restore tractors, so sometimes our place looks like a salvage yard.

I DO, HOWEVER, still hide purchases from Target, the Gap, Old Navy. Express, Hobby Lobby...etc. :-)

The only person I hide my junk from is myself and that's not intentional LOL But you know how it goes. It's the layering effect.Every so often I go to to straighten up and it's like an archeological dig. I'm always unearthing things I had forgotten about.

  15. Linda- I'm there with you... I have organized chaos. I usually know where my stuff is in the clutter... but there are days when it takes sometimes, hours to find what I'm looking for. Or I'll go buy something because I can't find it, then find it later... grrr....

  16. I'm not going to address my junk situation...let me just say it's like Christmas every time I go looking for something...

Not me, In fact hubby cleaned out the storm shelter and set it up so I could store my large collection of glass (it's too wet for anything metal) Metal goes in the garden shed and wood goes to the garage. Hubby has been turned into a junker..........he is almost as good at spotting *special* items as I am.........I taught him well.............LOL

It's a junker's duty to recycle and reuse as many items as possible. It's a junky job but someone has to do it!
