I posted an awesome, cheap tutorial on how to hang a plate when you don't have a plate hanger:

Wow, Fluffy, what a super nifty thrifty idea! I've never seen that before and I love it. Do you worry at all that the plate will be too heavy for the rubber-band?
Really cool idea.
Here's what I used. The plate is only about 3" across and light weight. I put several up like wall papet trim. I've had one come unglued but it turned out good so I reglued and put it back up. They've been hanging for 2 years.

Thanks y'all :)
chiccottagejunk, I'm not worried about them crashing. I used a couple rubber bands rather than just one and I used the thicker ones rather than the thinner ones. I plan to change out the rubber bands once a year during spring cleaning since I'll be taking them down to dust anyway. That way they'll be new and fresh and they'll hold up longer.
Tinta, that is a fantastic idea. What type of glue did you use?
I just squirtted a big glob of hot glue and squished the tab into the glob. Presto. But like I said, they're very light weight and I doubt if it would hold anything much heavier.

E6000 or GE silicon II would probably hold heavier plates...
Fluffy, thanks for the tip! I'll have to try it.
Great tip. I'm thinking you could twist some wire around the paper clips while you have the rubber band on, then remove the rubber band. Making a more secure, permanent hanger..
Paitwife, that is also a great idea. And who doesn't have wire lying around?! :)
Tinta, totally groovy with the glue! I'll have to try that out some time.
paintwife, the wire idea is great too!
Hey Fluff,
Great idea. Here's a couple of my cheesy Florida souvenir plates/serving trays I hung using your method. Only problem is when putting the rubber band on to the clips, use caution. The old advice from mom applies here, "you could put someone's eye out" if the clip decides to zing across the room like one did for me. Yeesh! Maybe I did it wrong, but I got them up there and I like the way they look. There's two more on the other windows in the room.
Plates are a little dark because of glare from window.

Oh radioflyer, they look awesome. I put the clips on first, then put the rubber bands on.
Yeah, I put the clips on first, too. But, I guess I'm not too coordinated and one got away from me, flew across the room at an amazing rate of speed.
I got to thinking about it and wondered if, for us klutzes, it might be easier to stretch several bands between two clips directly opposite each other, then several more bands between the other two clips opposite each other? This would form an X and you could use the middle of the X as your spot from which to hang it. I'll try it this way next time and let you know.

LOL Perhaps I should put a warning label on that tutorial? :)
I like your X idea! I'll try that next time too.
