I'm wanting to know, what kind of saw to use to cut plexiglass?

I recently cut some by simply scoring it (using a straight edge) repeatedly until I got a good grove and then snaping it off over a crips edge. I had a carbide cutter that I've used for cement backer board but I feel sure you could use a sharp blade.

I have had success cutting it with a bandsaw too but you have to use a fine tooth blade.

  6. I bought a plexi-glass cutter at Home Depot for about $2.39. I just asked a guy with an orange apron on and he directed me to the right tool. It works great. I use a metal measuring stick but I clamp the measuring stick to the plexi-glass on my work bench. This keeps the measuring stick from moving while I'm scoring the plexi-glass. I run the tool along several times going a bit deeper each time. Then I remove the clamp, put the scored area right over the edge of my workbench and snap it cleanly. Well, sometimes it's not so clean and a jagged edge will appear. I then score deeper at the jagged edge and then snap it off.

  7. Love these tips--now would you all share what you are making with the plexiglass?

  8. Well, I cut plexi-glass for the shelves in one of my birdcage organizers. I think I posted a pic somewhere, but not sure where. Let me know if you'd like another one posted...

  9. Good Morning! I use the old "score and break" method myself! It's tried and true! I have also used a router for die-cut pieces, but that's just plain scary. LOL I have to admit my plex experiences have been for work (sign shop), but I did take a piece, "warhol'd" my sons picture and stuck it in a shadow box with a light bulb, now he just "lights up" the room... LOL

  11. I had a pretty thick piece of plexiglass that I needed cut. I used my table saw (which is not a great one), however I used it from the back side so the blade was going in the opposite direction. This is more like grinding than cutting, so it's a slower process, but it does the job. The cut edge didn't look that great, so I did sand it down a bit.
