  1. I found these in the closet under the stairs of my house. I have NO idea how old these wooden mallets are or what I should do with them.
My house is pre-civil war so there is no telling. What do you think I should do with them? I need something awesome that I know only you all can come up with.

  2. those are for croquet - it is a yard game - you use those to hit balls through hoops.

  3. Hahahaha! I know what there for but I only have these two and I am trying to think of something creative to do with them.

  4. I believe Margo used some for table legs

  5. I wonder if those would store fancy pony tail ties for a little girl? Keep them away from my grandson - he would definitely know what to do with one of those... paper towel holder? handle is kind of pretty to cover up though. Maybe they could hold ribbons in a craft room... display for necklaces - one on each groove - have to hold them sideways somehow

Here's my 2 cents worth :^). Take the handle out and but a candle in its place, you would have to sand the bottom so it would set up tho. My second thought is to make a long sign like "Let the games begn" and attach the mallet along the bottom. Diana

  11. I really like the candle ideal...

i think they'd be cute set in a springtime arrangement for a porch or deck or even garden. maybe find some balls or make some...place in an old tub or bucket alongside.

I think they would look cool "as is" in an umbrella stand, with the mallet end up, maybe mixed in with some old walking sticks or umbrellas.

Wow, what great ideas ! I just found this site and I love it.. I have a whole set of these, and at sometime I had seen a craft for them. Then I found them at a yard sale, knew I wanted them for a craft, but I can't remember what the craft was !! But, now with all your help, I too, might get to finally use these wooden mallets !!

I had another idea too, If your last name starts with L, T, V, or X you could hang them on the wall or front porch like a letter. You could also make A or H if youu take the bottom off one and use it as the middle line. Diana

good idea dpumm. could add old rulers to fill in letters, too!

  22. ;-D those are cool! i took some and squared the bottom off a little bit - sawed some of the handle off (not enough to loose their personality!) and then added a knob or bottle cap or whatever...
and they made the PERFECT paper towel holder! Or... toilet paper holder...

  23. I saw some on ebay for $135 each

  25. Living in an urban college town, I often come across furniture pieces that need a little TLC, and yeah, can't resist dragging them home. Any ideas on how to make this little dresser special? Yellow with white accents?

liking the hardware...maybe you could give them a greenish patina?

i can see it antique whitewash with golden colors in the grooves then distressed some. (even some golds on the very bottom and legs)

    Posted 2 years ago #
  27. Love the reverse whitewash idea, Gigi. I was seeing it as yellow all over and white in the grooves. Thanks for the different perspective. Patina on the hardware--I have the materials for that.

hmmm...could also lose the handle-less drawer all together, move them all down and put bins in the top drawer space (???)

maybe even then....use the drawer as a topper to the dresser-adhere it to the top-opening facing towards you..maybe add a vintage mirror inside and even hooks to hang things from like jewelry (???)

    (hope that last one made sense to others and not just me) :}

  29. how do you do patina on the hardware?

    Posted 2 years ago #
  30. blown away by your ideas, gigi.
Copperhead, here's what I know about doing patina: you can get a 2-solution kit, where you paint on the first coat, then the second one to react with the first. Or you can faux finish with paint on hand.

I think I've decided to use milk paint to create the whitewash finish.

i'm especially in love with the architectural pieces and tubs!!

    Posted 2 years ago #
  33. I love her stuff - all of it. I must have missed the tubs. I wonder what she is using - paper or fabric? How does it stick? Mine always wrinkles or bubbles. I have some stuff here that needs that kind of treatment. Originally I found her spot because she was on here a while ago. I tried to figure out the conversation but couldn't so looked up her site. I still don't know what it was but I do like her stuff. I'll try to bring it back up.

definitely a particular buyer for alot of the dresser pieces. i love the marilyn monroe one. very unique and special work she does.

i'm a lover of creativity, art, uniqueness, etc...but i still am drawn back to the simplicity and beautiful design of the old architectural and chippy looks tho....that look is near and dear to my heart.

    Posted 2 years ago #
  35. LOL I figured out what tubs you were talking about - on the 'cover' I have a relic like that sort of - it's in the ugly little cottage - it is a bit different shaped - it is a bit wide and shorter.

I have seen many things done with these...I toom have some and keep on looking for them because I will probably use mine for some crafts I've seen. I have seen them used to hang pictures from and the best part is you have just two..perfect! Hang them one above the other and hang picture frames with family and friends playing outdoor sports or find some old retro pictures online. Great for a front porch! Also I have seen them used as an added piece in people's flower beds with a crow made out of wood sitting on top! Very cute, many things to be done..so have fun with them!
