I bought this box of old cold cream jars. They are all different shapes, sizes and designs. Anybody got any great ideas what to repurpose these into?

Maybe find a way to put padding on the top for a pin cushion and put a little sewing kit inside. Wish I could think of something to use them all but I'm sure the talented ladies here will have great ideas.

  3. there is always the candle holder route... throw a votive in there and add stencils on the outside to dress them up... don't know if the glass is opaque enough that the light would pass through...

  4. I use to have a site(before I lost everything 3 times since xmas)that told how to make homemade lotions and such. Most items from the $$ store. And use the jars to put it in...

The recipe is on the HGTV site in the craft section of their message boards. They call it Miracle cream.

I bought a box of old cold cream jars at a auction last spring, I think I paid $2 for about 2 dozen jars. My plan was to paint a snowman face on the front and wrap a thin wire around the rim and over the top to make them into ornaments. It hasn't happen yet so I'll have to watch this post to see all the good ideas. Diana

  7. DPumm if you attach a wire you could make them tealight holders if they are big around enough. That would be cute with the snowmen faces paintd on...

How about candles AND snowman faces! I'm assuming they are not plastic! There is a great porceline paint at the craft stores that you paint, let it dry for 24 hours and bake in an over. It's very permanent and won't chip off. Lot's of those little lit up guys would be lovely!

I saw somewhere using the jars to grow grass in them--some even placed an Easter Egg in the tall grass and used as Easter decorations.

I love the grass and easter egg idea! Maybe I will have to grow some grass for Easter and then post a pic of them. I have graduation this May, any great ideas for this occassion?

a relative gave our daughters some little jewelry boxes that looked similar to these jars...had hinged lids that were painted w/small flowers and small gold bands around the mouth. big enough to hold rings while washing dishes, or place a special gift inside...earrings holder, etc.

maybe you could ask the wise ladies that work w/china-soldering methods, etc and get some useful ideas on how to do something along those lines? i believe robolady does that type of stuff? i'm sure there's more on here.

  14. nebrjunk456 it looks fantastic! I was going to suggest something similar to what lovecrafting said except put the cushioned part on the inside so you can close with the lid and call it a traveling sewing kit.

Here is a pic with a whole bunch of them together. They would be really cute on a table done up for Easter. I have the big card vase and the five little jars on the center of my kitchen table now. They look so springy even though it is not that great here today. Oh well, I'll just keep looking at my flowers and thinking spring!

  21. These are adorable! Great for place markers but also great just for little bud vases any day. Sue

  22. I bought a box full of those at an auction several years ago.about 40 of them for $1.50 They went back to the 1920s and were both milk glass and cobalt blue. I made tiny dried flower arrangements in them in time for a Mother's Day craft fair and sold 27 of them for 12.50 each. ( Although I normally didn't do flower arranging,I had purchased several cartons of dried flowers at a yard sale for under 10.00.) My best sale day up until that time!

Since milk glass and the blue ones come in and out of vogue in the collectors market on a fairly regular basis. you might not want to paint on them to retain their value. Also try to incorporate the lids in your arrangement if you have them.
