  1. Hi - going right to the experts here :-)
I recently scored 2 "French Country" end tables at SA -
ripe for redoing. I've painted one of them off-white
and planning on antiquing it, and the other one I'm thinking
doing black (I think it will take less coats! LOL!) -
The tops are not great so I'm thinking of decoupaging with
either sheet music or pages from a French book. I've
never done a table top before but it seems like it shouldn't
be too hard. Any tips about what NOT to do, along with anything
I should know before I start? Do I finish off with a few
    coats of poly??
    TIA -

  3. well, I meant to take a pic - but since I haven't started on the second one yet - I'll take one of that one (since they are a pair! LOL!) I just discovered that one of the legs on the one I haven't done looks like a puppy got a hold of :-)... I'll have to do some sanding, and I guess the black would be better for that one - maybe less noticeable. No wonder they were so cheap! LOL!

  4. Use wood fill on the puppy chew place...
I have a big wad of old fake confederate bills - at least I presume they are fake... LOL I was thinking they might make a cool table top some day - I'm waiting for just the right table and a day when DH isn't home - he won't understand that one... not until it is done... I like the sheet music idea too. Some times GW OUTLET has piles of sheet music - the fronts would sure be cool. I have some old art books with cool pictures - might get cultural around here all of a sudden.

  5. I suggest you distress between coats. Then add some umber paint to a clear poly water based top coat to add to the patina.

  6. definately poly a few coats (let dry between) when youare all done..sounds like a great idea...i have seen it done with brown bags too...makes it look like leather !

  7. wow - interesting "leather" idea -
I've had some other stuff going on so the table
is still waiting for the antiquing and top
transformation - but got to get it done for a
sale I'm doing next weekend. (Remains to be seen
if the other one gets done :-))...
Just discovered that I did NOT get the water-based
poly - darn! - back to the store. Thanks for all
    the suggestions!
