I have found a new area of interest. Needlepoint. I am framing pieces myself and love the beauty of floral work in particular. At auctions, I will buy a dilapidated chair for the needlepoint. I wonder how many of you junkers think of creative ways to reuse and display vintage needlepoint.

don't know as if i'd frame the brown artwork on the chair, i love it as it is!
there's so much time, love and energy put into those pieces of art....unless you've done some kind of this work....you really can't grasp all of that in just one look! i love looking at all the old cross-stitch samplers....they tell a story!Posted 3 years ago # -
I have a stool covered in vintage needlepoint. I might try this if I ever remember where I hid, stashed, put the stool.

I love the needlework! Someone spent a lot of time working on it. I'll have to keep my eyes open, it's so pretty.

Very pretty-and a good way to preserve it!

Thanks for the compliments, gals! A friend who works at our antique mall called yesterday and had found this oval needlepoint piece for ten dollars in a vendor's booth. I searched our antique store and then another one in town and it was there that I find the pretty carved-design teak wood tray. I painted it black last night and attached needlepoint to it! Taking it to my booth....or my bedroom wall (hee hee) today!

How pretty...How'd you attach it??

That's gorgeous! How much are you going to sell it for? I'd keep it!

I think this is prettiest piece I have found, yet. It just came to my mind to use the teak wood tray as a frame. It was 15 dollars and it was cheaper than any vintage picture frame I could find. I love how it turned out, too.
Needlepoint tends to sell by desirability of pattern and the frame used. Given this piece is very color-rich and tightly stitched with no flaws...and the teak is so ornate, (oh, and I have twenty-five dollars in it) I think I will sell it for no less than 85.00. I may ask a higher price and KEEP it if it does not sell.
I used tiny thin nails...almost look like straight pins but are not as long... to secure the piece to the teak. The threading hides the nails. I also used hot glue in some places.
Christine...there is a part of me that REALLY thinks I will never be able to duplicate this particular duo again. And, because of that, I may keep it. I bought two pink rose NP's today...and have two more different NP's that are framed and are in transit to my home.
Now you now why I used the word MANIA in the title of this post! ; )

I forgot this one. It is my first attempt and is not centered correctly. So, I put kept it. It hangs in my laundry room. It is placed at such an angle that it is difficult to spy that the flowers are not centered.

Wow Blossom, You've got some beautiful peices, and for $10.00!!!!I love making needlepoint pieces Myself but have been so lucky as to come across any antique peices. I've seen projects where the embroidered peice is trimmed with a quarter inch seam allowance and whip stitched to the back and reattached to, say a vest, or made into a pillow, or a fireplace screen or a pair of jeans.
Blossom, I don't know if Your aware of this but glass from a frame will damage Your art work. I've read that You can buy Acrilic replacements that wont damage Your gorgious purchases.Respectfully,

Thanks for telling me about glass-damage. I am new to collecting/needlepoint and appreciate any wisdom/advice I receive. I am assuming that sunlight through glass would be the damaging element you are referring to.
The next project I am considering is making two pillows from 17 inch square pink, rose-centered pieces. I will add ball fringe and see how they sell. Thankfully, pink is not one of my "colors" in my house. I'd be keeping the pillows along with the other pieces I am not ready to surrender yet. ; }

Blossom, I would love to see the first on in a Black frame...and the second one in a Gold frame.. whatcha think???

Ha Ha...Hugs, I wish you could see them in the right light! I had a terrible time tweaking my photo settings to get them to look half as semi-normal-colored as they do. I took the pics at night...against my green counter. Should have waited for daylight.
I painted both frames and the one matting and framed them myself. In person, the slight green frame color really brings out the green in both pieces. Kind of makes the green pop.
I am a lover of black frames. My black needlepoints are, by far, my favorite pieces. Since four of my pieces are already in black frames, I opted for a different color..but I do think that pink would look good with a black frame.
I have three more needlepoints that are in transit to my house. Two I am making into pillows...they are pink. The other is already framed (WHOO HOO..less work for me) ...but I will paint the frame a different color.
Gee, I hope these things sell and I don't end up living in a Needlepoint museum. You never can tell!!!!
