come over to my place, I'll fix you up with something heavy... oops we got rid of the drain pipes Monday... Well there are still some old Cadillac rotors - you could go first class - oh and we have an old foundation out back - lots of concrete blocks. Maybe if it's closer you could stop at a grocery store and see if they have any 5 gallon buckets in the deli - maybe you could fill them up with water or concrete - stick a couple on each corner. If you want to go spendy some times they have 5 gallon buckets at Lowes in wild cool colors. BUT that just wouldn't be the junker way.

Ok, its been awhile since I've been on here, so hello again...At Bonanza last year, I used an ex up tent (like the type you use for tailgating), but a pretty sturdy one and instead of the fabric top I just covered it with burlap and christmas lights. I bought the roles of garden burlap at lowes....25 feet roll for $10, I think????

Of course, I don't have a picture...was too busy selling to take one!!!

Just junk it up. Add a burlap swag or banner with your name on it. Use something funky for the tiebacks, vintage tablecloths, or chenille bedspreads, sew some daisys on the screen part and I know you have a toad somewhere to stick out front

I know I'm not around here a whole lot, but I also know that you all are strong independent business owners/entrepreneurs and you understand the struggle!

I'm planning on opening a B&M in my garage in November and am ranked 5th in this grant contest.

Could you take a minute of your time and cast a vote my way? It only takes a second...really!

Wow talk about the MIL from Hell! Golly I was lucky, actually I liked my MIL better then my husband! ! !.. Second time around my MIL to be died before I got to meet her and from what I have heard it's a good thing!

You know that Rocker would make a great mosaic project ( one that never gets done) Put it in the garage or wherever and start mosaicing it and just never finish and of course it HAS to stay in the garage till it's finished! ! !

Orrrrrrrrrrr dismantle it and just never get around to putting it back together............. :O Also you could take the seat out and get a planter large enough to fit in the hole and just paint the chair white and set it on the porch, yard, wherever, Orrrrrrrrrrrr do the formentioned and regift it back to your MIL for Mothers day. LOL

I guess I was lucky and never had one. I saw one at GW yesterday... EW I'm with you Lorene. How about DH sitting in the chair with and accidentally drags his "closed" pocket knife across the reeds and tears a couple. Then the hole happens to get bigger - just a thought. Maybe if you have a cat... Just put a little cat nip tea on the chair... Your were going to stain it right??? My MIL is the same way. She gave me her watch she was sentimental about - I lost it. She is 89 and still hasn't let it go.... it's been over 35 years. Whatever, I'm sure she hasn't forgiven me for taking her baby away either... He's 60. That's been almost 40 years.

I think it would look cool metallic and I liked the number Idea too. Hey, could you just leave it outside where it "accidentally" got ruined....We want to see..... Lezlee

Do you have a dog? Reason I ask is this... (and I know it goes against all our recycling instincts but...) get out a saw and hack into the legs of the chair and the caining. Then you can blame it on the dog (give him plenty of treats and he'll forgive you) and she'll never know the truth.

Don't have a dog? Go get one. Teach it to attack her if she brings you any more outdated junk even us junkers wouldn't touch!

I hear you Sue, and this darn website isn't helping me get anything done LOL I mean yeah it's great for ideas, and I've recently sought out specific items at yards sales to set aside to try some of these wonderful projects but...I need to stop checking in every hour or so and maybe I could actually finish something :)
Currently I'm supposed to be typing up some proposals for DH and as far as he knows that's what I'm doing....he doesn't know along with the business letterhead, I've also got the window to Junk Revolution open. LOL
Just what I need another addiction to help me procrastinate:)

Oh, no - you gals are not alone. I have a two-day show in 4.5 weeks and I really don't have anything crafted yet. My workshop/junkroom has crap laying everywhere! Yes, I said CRAP! I've bought so much this summer that I have no room for anything. My shelves are full, my storage unit is full, I've got junk hidden under the table cloth under my work table. I don't know how I'm going to get my rear in gear for this show. Life keeps interrupting me and I can't get anything done! I DO work better under pressure, but hey, I've got to get off this roller coaster and get something MADE! LOL.

Okay...the chair is currently in the middle of my front yard awaiting it's paint treatment tonight (I have a can of the COOLEST pewter/silver/blackish color!!!)

Chelcass - the dreaded MIL gave it to me...my thoughts on that are this: She didn't want it in HER house anymore and laughed hysterically as she brought it to MY house knowing that she's intimidating as all get out and I wouldn't have the guts to kick it out back to HER house...and I'm just about 100% positive it gives her the GREATEST pleasure to come check on it (when I moved it into the guest room she questioned me as to where it was!!!)and she is just filled with glee to know that she is offending my decorating sensibilities. That's just what I think. LOLOL So far, it's worked for 9 years. I'm such a wuss!!!

But - You guys!!! I love love love the idea of standing it up straighter and altering the whole frame! Before I paint I'm going to re-build! AND! Vanessa! I love the thought of the stencil - what if I stencil "sit" on the seat? Just make the whole thing a topic of conversation instead of an "I can't believe this girl has this in her house..."

Thank You all!!! I'll keep you "posted"! LOL

Try the silver paint! I think Lila's on to something with cutting off the back handles and bringing it forward. Maybe you could mount it on something that will make it just a motionless chair that is more upright. Once you add the paint and pillows---good luck---!

I like the idea of painting the cane seat and back. Maybe even the rest of the chair as well. Possibly you could wedge the rockers forward so the chair is more up right (after painting), put a large full plant on the seat and allow it to be a place for a beautiful growing vine type plant. The right plant could even encompase the entire chair one day. I'd discretely snap off those cury handles on the back. It makes it look like Rosevelts wheel chair.

Oh wow! I would take it in a heartbeat. Who gave it to you and how long ago? Ya know we ladies like to rearrange our furniture on a regular basis (you get my drift). Can you move it to another room, say a bedroom (guest room). Leave for a few months then move somewhere else until you can safely shoo it out the door. I don't think I would paint it, that would decrease it's value.............one day down the road you are going to be able to sell it and make a profit...............How about a shabby chic slipcover to go over it?

This is so funny, I remember wayyyyyy back when, I actually really really wanted one of those bentwood rockers.

I'd leave it as it is, drape a throw across it and add a few pillows.

If your decor is more cottagy paint would work too.

Good Luck,

Okay...this is what I have. Getting rid of it is not an option - getting it out of my living room is not an option. I HATE this chair...it drives me crazy (well, crazier...)...it was a gift and I can't re-gift, move it to an out of the way place (preferably the barn back behind the barn that's back behind the other barn). So...HELP! Any ideas as to how to make this look a little more appealing in an eclectic living room? It sits in the corner...one side of the corner is a painted wall (dark goldy/yellow) and the other side is a painted book-case (black). I was thinking about painting the middle sections and leaving the wood - then putting some big pillows in it so that one might see the pillows instead of the chair...

any ideas? anyone want to come steal it out of my living room? i promise...i'll turn a blind eye...

I think it could be a cute clock/storage container. I'd cover the holes that the clock face didn't cover with some cute craft paper (maybe on some cardboard for sturdiness), and paint the outside. (I paint everything. Drives my husband nuts.) I think I'd put it on a nightstand, and use the space inside the clock to store things like lotion and lip balm that don't look so nice left out.

Great radio! Who would ever consider throwing that out? I have taken vintage radios, removed the guts, and inserted CD organizers to make a "secret" CD holder. So, naturally, that was my first thought. But after reading the other ideas, I really like the mirror idea and I like the tealight idea, but I think you could even take it one step further and wire it with a light bulb to make a lamp of sorts.

hillbillies - I love the idea of the chicken wire and tealight. You could even get one of those battery operated tealights for safety. Cool idea! I was walking downstairs to the laundry room in the basement yesterday and glanced on the wall and discovered a wooden heart thingy that I may put chicken wire in to repurpose. It is a thick primitive looking piece. It has been hanging there for a while but I guess it just went away from my view each time I go down to the laundry room...! That old radio has wonderful possibilities...my hubby would have tossed it too! Jan

My first thoughts are taking all the guts out, put a mirror in it where there is holes showing through, or some type of wire, chicken, screen, and put a small tealight in for a nice glow through the openings...

looking at it straight forward as is....i see an old time parking meter!! you could make a faux looking timer in the larger open area (covered in glass or plexi)and a handle below and mark the 4 smaller buttons as some whimsical words related to parking. add a large post or metal base to stand it on? would look adorable next to a garage!!

or then....like always...i look at objects upside down, too!!

so...you could insert a door in the large opening, one that would open if pulled towards you and down(may take some finagling, especially may involve removing the smaller sections in that area)it would make an awesome mailbox for a porch!!

i'd love to see it as a parking meter!! oooh....or even an old time gumball machine!!! awww....now i want one!!!! :(

I am sooooooo excited because my partner in crime at work came in with this yesterday for me...can you believe her husband was going to throw it out? CRAZINESS!!!

I keep looking at it and can't get past the idea of a birdhouse! Anyone see anything else lurking in this radio cabinet? LOL A birdhouse just isn't "funky" enough for my house! The tubes are going in my bowl of old tubes, and the various "guts" of it are going in different directions.

All of you are so inspiring - please tell me what you see!!!
