i have found them at the flea market...sometimes a whole collection of them...in the old days...they gave them away at furniture stores, etc, because they have advertising on them...ask around....sometimes people just have them laying around and they dont even want them..(tape measure is so better for measuring)

Where do you get enough yard sticks? They are kind of expensive if you buy them. It does sound like a cool idea.

How about old leather belts. Line them up end to end. The buckles could be very interesting - or if you have theme - collect belt with buckles that match your theme.

Gigi, I love the idea of the corrugated tin. Actually that will match a birhouse we made out from my grandfathers house when it was torn down. We used the wood, nails and tin. Thanks for this idea. I just told my husband, brother and son to be out on the look out for some of the tin!! I can't wait!

glue on fabric or wallpaper or burlap or brown bags torn up -
Somebody did one where they painted the wall then added wood pieces to look like batten pieces with a molding at the top and bottom. You could cover the 'trailer' type wall joints that way. http://thediyclub.com/2011/09/dutch-boy-and-design-divas-with-some-fake-board-and-batten/ I found a link. http://www.decorchick.com/how-to-fake-wainscoting/ and another idea

what about something like corrugated tin (not the easiest to cut) but lightweight and would look awesome with the barn wood! it also would take alot of abuse to dent it up.

maybe reclaimed pieces of molding covered in old chicken coop wire, another nice touch with barn wood.

maybe you could find some old pallets and make your own barn yard fencing/door? attach as if it's running along the entire floorboards of the room and the weight of the wood would be tolerable because it sits on the floor not the wall. ??

and maybe if you want extra funky....
smaller tin molds for muffins, tarts, candle holder plates, etc. (can be picked up at Goodwill and other thrifts for decent prices) may just work if screwed/anchored directly onto wall with opening facing inward??

hopefully those are all worded so you can get a visual. sometimes what makes sense to me doesn't to others ;)

I need to put up chair railing because my dining room is small. But I don't want just wood. I am using barn wood in the rest of the room but would like to have something else that would go with it. Also I live in a mobile home so I can't use anyting very heavy. Please any ideas??
